The dark, necromantic city of the
United Arium Directorate.
Description
In the foothills of the
Great Mountains and against the banks of the
River Carmelya sits the city of Vortex, a rumored haven for
Necromancy and other dark arts. The ancient stone looks out across the Nordmoor to the north and serves as a bulwark for
Arium's southeastern border while standing over the
Vysstichi and Esh'lahier underground city of Har'oloth. Recently both cities have merged into a single entity.
History
Known as a refuge for practitioners of the darker and often illegal arts, Vortex grew as its reputation began to spread, attracting Aeternian religious followers, necromancers, and demon-summoners. A symbiotic relationship with their
Vysstichi and Esh'lahier neighbors in the subterranean was formed, and the city of Vortex flourished.
Drawn by the rumors of darkness, Imperial armies besieged Vortex and ruined much of the city. As a result, Vortex has been rebuilding and has also withdrawn further from imperial affairs and growing far more secretive and reclusive.
Culture
Necromancy is an integral part of life in Vortex, despite being considered illegal in the
Aelyrian Empire. The "dark races", such as dracons, dark
Elves, and
Orcs, are welcomed and embraced. Other "light races", such as Medonian and Silrosian
Elves, are hated and not tolerated.
Local Government
Following the Aelyrian style of government, Vortex utilizes the positions of
Thane, ]aedile, and prefect, but is ruled by the city's titular Baron, Faust Kitrye'veresi of House Kitrye'veresi under House de Evile.
