Rougenoe's Rest
The
Rest or the
Rouge is a bit of a shithole. Depending on who you asked, however, this was either a flaw or a feature.
Seated somewhere in the back alleys of
The Guildworks, the tavern was named after the famous Lord Protector of
Medonia. Though the mysterious man had since disappeared from local and provincial politics, he had something of a fan club among the swashbucklers and smugglers of the city.
Besides, evoking the Lord Protector's good name was also great from a marketing standpoint.
At first glance,
Rougenoe's Rest was a dilapidated dwelling that was halfway between a speakeasy and a rat's nest (the pub, to be fair,
did have a rodent infestation). But that facade was intended to dissuade overeager new guards and lost tourists from sticking around.
The
real Rouge was a few stories below the speakeasy accessible only by a trapdoor that needed to be unlocked from both sides. A series of secret knocks and phrases must be employed by Members and their Guests. There used to be a secondary access point through the city's sewers but it was destroyed during the
Xet Wars.
