Religious Champions

The notable religious figures throughout Aelyria that have gained the status of champion for a particular deity.
Abstract
Individuals chosen to serve at the leisure of the gods, champions may have been simple, ordinary people of great faith or selected from the ranks of powerful religious organizations spread throughout the empire. Whatever their origins, these are the people who have shown great dedication to their Deities regardless of the odds and strife that may have otherwise driven the faithful away. They are often gifted with a token of their god's power, some minor ability that aids the chosen champion in accomplishing their goals and desires of the god. Regardless of their deity, champions often find themselves embroiled in the ancient grudges and squabbles of the gods, becoming the targets of those who would see their enemies fail.
Aetherian Champions
Champions who have been chosen as an award for their faithfulness to serve the many and varied purposes by the Aetherian gods.
Aslan, God of Honor
Traditionally Aslan maintains a number of champions as he sympathizes and actively protects mighty warriors set to cleansing Aeternian influences.

Argas Craetus
A massive man, Argas was the last known Champion of Aslan over a hundred ordinations ago. Born in a small hamlet on the southwestern slopes of the Khardran Mountains, Argas was the son of a Priest of Aslan and was bestowed the Chains of Aslan after he traveled to Malice and killed the head Priest of Jalat there. Not long after the Chains were bestowed to him, he went mad and killed himself.

A Minotaur and one of the guardians of the Temple of Aetheria. He has protected the ancient temple from repeated assaults from Aeternian forces over the hundreds of eras that he has served the Honour Bound Son.

Former gladiator and prisoner of the desert wastes in Arakmat, it was rumoured that Vogen possessed the Lion’s Helm before he became a prisoner in the wastes and has experienced what it is like to feel the eternal glory of Aslan’s courage. Vogen has dedicated his life to the service of Aslan and wanders the desert as its protector and guardian, searching for what he once lost.Nathaniel Barrister
A priest of Aslan who prayed to Aslan for forgiveness after lying to a young man after a brightening's mass. For his sins he was from there on out only able to speak the truth to those whom he conversed with. He came into possession of an Eye of Light and has since then purged himself of all memories, cleansing his soul, punishing himself for what he had done.Veleraen
A giant who has been given the title "Titan of Aslan" and currently possesses the Chains of Aslan. Veleraen is regarded as the embodiment of Aslan's Honor. He is presently undertaking the Trials of Aslan, which has included destroying the Temple of Thorns in the Primus Countryside.
Carmelya, Goddess of Nature
Due to Carmelya's incarceration by Diana, Carmelya has had few champions. Those she has chosen as an investment to protect her interest have varied in terms of how they achieve her goals but her drive is always balance of nature, be it through peaceful means or more direct methods.

Aydyn Blair
A human Druidess who actively acts as Carmelya's fist against Xenar's influence on the Material Plane. She has met and spoken with Carmelya, charged by the goddess herself to not only stand against Xenar but to also assist the newly empowered Planetar of Mercy, Aedaan, to find what mercy means.Brock the Bear
Brock is evidence of Carmelya's sometimes drastic measures against those who seek to undue her carefully maintained balance. Brock is a free roaming ranger who is one of the few Feral Shamans that endeavors to see balance and harmony over nature simply taking over the world. As a bear, he will often attack and kill those who threaten this balance.Primrose Cherryweather
A fae who is known for for her devious tricks against those who would upset the balance of nature, primarily in the forested regions of Centripax. Primrose, a Mystic, has never been known to be directly confrontational but is reputed to have taken her trickster ways to nearly an art form, practically tormenting her targets until they flee the area.
Cetheron, Archon of Soldiers and Blacksmiths
Legendary blacksmiths or soldiers are often considered avatars or particularly blessed by Cetheron but this particular Archon seldom actively selects individuals to represent him in any significant manner.
Bartelen the Bold
A human weaponsmith of great repute that is said to have been exceedingly creative and experimental with his creations. He is said to have had no fear when it came to wielding his skill at the forge, willing to try any method or material to see what he might make of it. It is said he is the only mortal Cetheron has ever favored with a piece of Aethermantium.
Ioannes, King of Gods
Despite being considered one of the great patrons of the Aelyrian Empire, history has recorded no known champions of the god. It is believed that Ioannes needs no mortals to enact his purposes and that he prefers to rule by allowing man to take care of himself.

Maj, Archon of Leadership
As a deity whose responsibilities and interests primarily rest in Aetheria rather than the Material Plane, Maj is rarely known to take champions. However, it is believed that those he does take under his wing are actually on directions from Ioannes, as the King of Gods has never been known to take a champion himself.
Ras Benar
The champion of Maj was a giant priest and a early member of the Fist of Maj. Hailing from the Great Mountains near Arakmat he rose to become Thane of Archadoon. While yet a young giant living in the Great Mountains, Ras Benar was taught the Battle Hymn of the Archonic Phalanx by an unnamed visitor and was then inspired to travel to Diana to impart this to others. Maj granted Ras Benar a spear crafted from lightning. Legend claims that Ras Benar did not die but was transformed into a bolt of lightning that sped to Aetheria.Merucio Aladend
The founder of the Brotherhood of Maj was a former prelate who broke away from the church when the worship of Maj as god was suppressed during the reign of Baxter Iracor as Archprelate Maximilian. Merucio did much to maintain the Brotherhood of Maj after it was declared anathema and his writings are still read as authorative doctrine by followers of the Brotherhood.

Markalin, Archon of the Sea
Markalin's connection to mortals, particularly seafaring folk, has led to the rise of a number of lovers and champions alike sworn to the archon.

Arygas Theodrakis
The current leader of the Order of Markalin, Arygas is based out of Eunesia, where he conducts and directs the efforts of the Order throughout Aelyria. It is believed he communes with the Archon directly and is privy to his wishes and demands. He is an Ieffreon native who is in his fifties and is commonly agreed to be the spiritual voice of the Nesocratic Federation.

The deceased lover of Markalin, consumed by the giant beast Kukkachuk. From the legends, she is one of the most beautiful women to have ever walked Telath.Autolf Sjöman
Markalin's second-in-command is the ascended mortal sailor by the name of Autolf Sjöman, the first Commander of the Aetherian Navy. It was believed that when he was mortal, he was one of Markalin's favorite avatars, having been blessed by the Archon's good fortune and blessings. He is now the Rear Admiral of the Aethernian Navy, second only to Markalin.Garash Stamos
The protector of Hadrin Isles, Garash is an avatar of Markalin who is believed to possess the ability to make the seas rage and waves churn, preventing anyone with ill intent to dock on the Isles where Markalin himself had walked so long ago. He was believed to be Demoisian before receiving an epiphany from the Archon himself to set out to protect the holy site consecrated to Markalin.
Orod, God of Logic
Orod’s noted reluctance to interfere in mortals’ doings has led to only one champion ever to be noted to arise.

Lupus Lindvard
Orod's first and only champion to this day, he died over five centuries ago. Lindvard reputedly knew every language spoken on Telath and had consumed a grain of the Sands of Life, giving him powers surpassing those of the Aelyrians. Surprisingly, though, he committed suicide when he realized that his own power was tempting him, and he embraced death fearing that he might yield to it. That Orod has not had a champion ever since speaks of the god's incredibly high standards.
Phedos, Archon of Magic
Champions of Phedos have only ever been Elves with incredible skill with arcana.
Eh'mer Ava'riantyl
The current Eh'mer (Spiritual leader, head of the True Church of Phedos) from the Eternal City is also the youngest to even ascend to that esteemed position. A direct descendant of the famed Eh'mer, Zehk'iel, he is an enigmatic being proclaimed the new Eh'mer shortly after the demise of the former leader. All followers of the Church of Phedos answers directly to him now, and celebrate him as their spiritual leader.Erenthril Mael'tharias
A Syl'rosyan Noble who came to encounter the Archon during his archmage testing, Erenthril Mael'tharias is the Sword of Phedos, an avatar of the Archon, something that has not occurred, especially since the brightenings of Moonstone, and the two are the only known champions of Phedos who were born outside Trelore, a signal that the Archon is diverting his attention toward Aelyria once more.Moonstone Ap Silrosan
The Elf who eventually started the infamous Elfish Rebellion against King Constantine of the United Aelyrian Kingdom was known to be an Avatar of Phedos, who sought to consolidate his powers on Aelyria. His champion however, failed after he became over ambitious, and eventually his massive kingdom, stretching from Enamoria, Lauryl and present brightening Arakmat, was dissolved, and the Elves of Aelyria placed under centuries long subjugation and painful prosecution.

Aeternian Champions
Dark champions that have fought in the name of the Aeternian Deities who have recognized their faithfulness and the potential to help spread or achieve their goals.
Alithea, Archon of Corruption and Lust
As a deity who enjoys meddling in the lives of mortals, Alithea has been known to indulge in a large number of mortal champions in her time.

Honey
A sweet-looking girl of youth and innocence, Honey was corrupted by Alithea herself through promises of eternal youth and beauty. Still sweet in appearance but far from innocent, Honey works her wiles on the unsuspecting, manipulating them to go against society's moral codes in order to get what she or her mistress desires.Otaris Columbari
A finely attired human, both good-looking and sweet of tongue, Otaris is a well-to-do merchant known for selling expensive and exotic wines and liquors to upper class nobles and politicians. Otaris is rumored to exercise his close proximity to the wealthy to encourage them into corruption, whether it be through taking bribes or using their power to their own personal benefit.Vylixar
One of many incubi, Vylixar is considered to be one of the most dangerous of Alithea's creations. He revels in the destruction of his victim rather than the purely sexual angle of the nighttime visitations, often appearing to women over an extended period of time. In many cases, Vylixar simply leaves them physically drained and their appearance withered but in more extreme cases, when Vylixar has truly wallowed in his tasks, his victims have died. Alithea takes delight in his torments and favors him above most.Sliucha Sindosa
Sliucha, an elf of mixed origin, having gained the significant favour of Alithea as her 'Shalun'ya'. She has been flagged for the conversion of the faithful of other Deities worshippers due to her efforts throughout the Principality of Moonstone.
Haya, Goddess of Plague and Pestilence
While many follow Haya because of their belief that she is the goddess of lust, Haya's chosen champions are primarily chosen for their ability to spread disease and disaster throughout the empire. She favorite mortal champions are nomads. Because she takes an active hand in the Material realm, she has had no shortage of intimate followers.

Bob Kettle
A former farmer of the Prime region, it is believed that Bob turned to Haya in outrage over a land line with a neighbor. He had his revenge on the fellow by developing a pestilence that overwhelmed his neighbor's lands and, finding a thrill in it, has become one of Haya's greatest bringers of pestilence throughout Aelyria.Misson Vale
High Plaguebringer, known to have spread a variety of different diseases to numerous regions. He is a mixed breed of human and elvish origin and said to look young, handsome and healthy despite the plagues he visits upon the areas that he visits. NB: Mission Vale is a 'Title', not an individual. The current Mission Vale has yet to be identified.Thoroth Chitwick
A black female mousai, mangy and flea-bitten in appearance. It is rumored that a bite from Thoroth can be the start of a plague in any given city in the form of oozing pustules, loss of hair and high fever that eventually leads to death.
Jalat, God of Death
The god of Death does not often deal with mortals, preferring to monitor the dead and ensure that the balance of life and death is upheld, but he has occasionally obtained mortal champions from the Material Plane to uphold his might as the one who has the final say over life and death.

Agar Grithmarog
Agar is an Undead orc-demon enslaved by Jalat for his failures during the orckish siege of Narim in the Second Sherian War. Having made a gambit with Jalat in return for favor, Agar failed his test as was subsequently killed and tethered to the Lord of Death's whims. He now acts as a dam or a gatekeeper in Narim, slowly allowing souls of the massive amount of dead (from both the orc and Imperial sieges, the Second and Third Wars) to pass through slowly so that Jalat is not overwhelmed and forced to destroy or give up most souls to Meephos.
Parreyon Syndicus
Parreyon is a Katta that has been tasked by Jalat to return souls that have escaped the cycle to the afterlife.
Jorel, God of Chaos
Champions of Jorel, despite their outlawed nature, often gain notoriety for the large swathes of destruction that follow in their wake.

Éclair Mainesthai
A budding champion tasked with the "conversion" of as many individuals as possible to the service of Jorel.Fidelis Meridus
Fidelis has the title "Wolf of Jorel" and is considered one of Jorel's current champions. Fidelis causes Chaos wherever he goes. Fidelis has been given the directive to dismantle the Church of Faith.Lady Variath Morla
The Vysstichi Oracle of Jorel, currently residing in the Temple of Thorns in the Primus Countryside. Variath is said to receive directives from Jorel and foresee the coming of prominent figures, including demonic messengers and the Uvak before they materialize.Oji the Eunuch
A sorcerer that roams the realm, Oji is described as being a horribly scarred man with glowing red eyes. He shows many signs of mental instability, acting out as a deranged man who self-mutilates and is nearly incomprehensible to all with whom he interacts.
Meephos, God of Lies
Champions of Meephos are secretive in nature and thus reluctant for public recognition.

Malagust Von Treagan
The first mortal priest of Meephos. Malagust is said to have been a man of impeccable business sense as well as possessing a greed unparalleled even today. His actions attracted the attention of Meephos who chose to make a deal with Malagust. It is not known exactly what that deal was but it is said that Malagust was the only one ever to have come out ahead in a contract with the Betrayer.Couth T'linias

One of Meephos' favored warriors, a fallen paladin of Aslan who gave into selfish passion and killed his wife in order to be with another woman.
Planetar Champions
The champions of the lesser deities whose faithfulness has been awarded with the acknowledgment of their chosen gods.
Aedaan, Planetar of Mercy
With her active presence on the Material Plane and her keen interest in mortals, Aedaan has already begun to recruit others to assist her in her quest to bestow mercy as she deems fit.

Shei'yein Neydremi
Drawn by Shei'yein's conflict with Rak, which led to his fall-out with the deity, Aedaan has claimed the elf as her own champion, deeming him a man of benevolence who embodies her vision of what mercy is.
Ainlar, Planetar of Hatred, Wrath, and Revenge
Ainlar has several champions whose capacity for destruction have warranted recognition.

Jin Wei Sha
A former Kemite clan leader that was ousted from his family for committing adultery with a nobleman's daughter, he is reputedly so consumed with jealous rage and anger that he turned towards Ainlar after the woman he loved spurned him away. Using the powers granted by the planetar to lay waste to all things that are good and made of love in the notion that if he could not have any of it, then no one could.The Undead Knight
Unknown by name, the Undead Knight himself was survived by hatred. Speculations have it that the Knight was a former Jaedaxian cavalry warrior that was brutally killed and tortured to death by the Imperials during the sacking of the City, survived only by his desire to bring death and retribution to the Realm by causing unrest and chaos with his abilities.Collette
The latest Ainlar Champion emerged from the war-ravaged lands of Sherian. It is said that corrupt soldiers, after entering Narim, performed acts of brutality and hacked a young woman's body to pieces after abusing her physically. Before she truly died, however, her spirit was harnessed by the planetar and granted her strange powers that are drawn from her deepest wrath for the men who had murdered her. Losing her corporeal form that had been mutilated by the soldiers, she appears as a humanoid figure constructed entirely out of blood, poisoning all of the intense emotions that filled her in her throes of death and abuse.
Kalendryas, the Timekeeper
History has recorded no known champions for Kalendryas, the Planetar of Time. It is believed that her disinterest in the Material Plane as well as divine politics of any sort is the cause.

Materna, the First Mother
Materna is not known to have had any champions, at least in recent times. Champions of the past have been lost to the annuls of time, if they have ever existed.

Olysréa, Planetar of Love
Although Olsyréa has not had many official champions, many have declared themselves to the planetar in the name of love. A number of individuals who swear to do the work of the Planetar of Love herself are scattered throughout the empire.

Ava Yearnstone
The only known champion of Olsyréa, Ava dedicated her life to the planetar. Ava traveled all of Telath performing marriages and reuniting couples that seemed beyond hope. It is rumored that Olsyréa had trusted her with the Crystalline Scepter and after her death, Ava ascended into the Plane of Love. It is also said that Ava taught many cultures about marriage.

Rak, Planetar of Power
As a constant meddler in the affairs of mortals and gods, Rak has had a number of champions who have been granted an aspect of his divinity to accomplish mutual goals. Due to the often fleeting nature of power, many of these champions have been fleeting.

Artherea Tralismen
A former peasant girl who worked her way up the political food chain in the name of Rak to become a Governor over Centripax. She was eventually murdered when her schemes to attempt to overthrow the government and reign as queen of her province became known.Phares Ediaet
A powerful elvish Elementalist who centuries ago used his powers over the elements to force a coastal city, now destroyed, in Sherian to submit to his will and rule.Wihun the Wild
A now deceased barbarian overlord of what is currently the plains of Enamoria. Wihun united wandering clans of the plains under his sole leadership in the name of Rak and had begun to expand well into Centripax before his death.
Srennius, Planetar of Peace
Srennius has had a number of mortal champions due to his strong desire to mettle in mortal affairs.

Aryan the Martyr
No one knows this selfless woman's second name, or even if she was elvish or human. Her legend however is undoubted. A quiet, unassuming village elder who rose to the position at a young age and mediated squabbles both great and small for eras, she is noted for her intervention in the beginning of the Luctadoman Strategem, where they met before the battle in her village. Against all odds when battle was inevitable she stopped their hearts with the sight of a single blossom from the Paxlurian blossom tree and entreated them not to fight. It is said that at this moment a servant of Rak stepped forth and cut her down in the name of one of the great men present, proclaiming her an assassin and thus igniting the war. Srennius himself is said to have come down after the battle and wept over her bloodied body.Jhath Eraski
Considered Po’i Meranth’s polar opposite, Jhath Eraski is an extremely skilled assassin who is considered a distant leader of the Proctors of Srennius. No one can say how old Jhath is, but many believe he is a Syl’rosian elf who is responsible for more deaths of the generals of armies and the leaders of Factions or even nations than any other man to have ever walked Telath. His works are justified in that they end conflict by removing the head of the problem, though some argue that this does not truly establish peace.Po’i Meranth
A man partially formed out of legend, Po’i Meranth is a man said to appear during the greatest of conflicts and mediate between fights, brawls and sometimes even wars. The solutions Po’i comes up with are always pleasant to both sides and effectively end conflict. Po’i’s voice is said to be extremely calming even to the most frayed of nerves.Ras'hatyiln
Ras appears to be a half-elf with silvery hair, sky-blue eyes and pale blue skin. She possesses the ability to calm and soothe, and also give visions. She is incredibly sympathetic towards war and battles, and is steeled against emotion, meaning that she can feel hardly anything and is a constant state of tranquility.
Xenarius, Planetar of the Wilds
Xenar's preferred minions tend to be along the lines of vicious wildlife such as Lanta Morók, water horses and even sirens. In some cases he has given a low level of sentience to plants and Animals to assist in his cause, sometimes even physically warping them to better his agenda. Xenar's mortal followers are rare but when discovered are often fervent, even fanatical, in their belief that the world should remain untamed.

Blarneigh Machannas
King of a gnomish clan where the veil to Kel'rondar was shrouded, Blarneigh served for a time as a guardian against passage to the fae realm when Xenarius had claimed it for his own.Eriseen
Eriseen was a mermaid and a strong Druid that saw to the continuation of coral and sea life in the Eunesian Seas. Her greatest pet peeve were pearl divers and fisherman, of whom she made her life's work to ensure that they were not successful in their endeavors, sometimes at the risk of their own lives.Jeris the Nimble
A squirrel shaman of the Dolwoods, Jeris was an older human that was known to creep through the branches of the unpredictable Dolwoods forest in search of anyone idiotic enough to attempt hunting or logging in the area. It is said that he often mobilized entire family groups of squirrels against these foolhardy individuals. In the face of a large threat, Jeris was once able to bring together a number of Xenar followers to chase off a blossoming settlement.
Zyrgra, Planetar of Pain
Zyrgra has no champions because she is such a new planetar, and very few that have risen to the level of such great worship to known as a notable. Many of her worshippers’ lives are ended prematurely either by at their own hands or murdered for their crimes.

Kreska Yangta
The former Prietess of Zyrgra of the Qwank’Kwakese people. She has overseen the ritual starvation and torture of numerous kidnapped victims as well as many devoted followers. It is said that hundreds have been tortured and starved in Zyrgra’s name by her hands. Deceased.Callian Crane
A man who tortures because he is interested in the fears and terrors of others. This was one of the first men that Zyrgra became interested in after ascending to the Plane of Torment. He is a notable because of all the people he has tortured in her name.
