Exotic, monkey-like pets.
Abstract
While there are several theories as to how the Nimrbans evolved, there is no set proof that either of them are true. They have the traits of both monkeys and cats, and while theorists are certain that they share ancestry in both the primates and felines, other theorists scoff at this. This has caused vast amounts of research on these creatures, trying to pinpoint their true origins.
Physical Appearance
Agile and lean, Nimrban weigh only three to nine pounds. The fur of the Nimrban varies, but is most commonly seen with pale cream to dark colored fur. The tail is long, covered in hair and is partially able to wrap around branches. The hands and feet are the two intricate, prehensile, multi-fingered digits much like that of a human, but end with small little talons.
Nimrban have highly advanced hearing, eyesight, taste, and touch receptors, making them extremely sensitive among mammals. Nimrbans night vision is superior to
Humans although their vision in daylight is inferior.
Humans and Nimrban have a similar range of hearing on the low end of the scale, but Nimrbans can hear much higher-pitched sounds, above the range of a human, and even one octave above the range of a
Dog. A Nimrbans’ sense of smell is about seven times as strong as a human's. To aid with navigation and sensation, the Nimrban have dozens of movable whiskers on their face.
The Nimrban tongue has sharp spines useful for retaining and ripping flesh from ripe fruit; these small backward-facing hooks also assist in their grooming.
Having directional hearing the Nimrban can move each ear independently of the other. Because of this mobility, a Nimrban can move its body in one direction and point its ears in another direction. Most Nimrban have straight ears pointing upward and they are triangular in shape.
The particularly loose skin at the back of the neck is known as the scruff, and is the area by which a mother Nimrban grips her kit to carry them. As a result, Nimrban tend to become quiet and passive when gripped there.
Climate and Terrain
Nocturnal and arboreal, the Nimrban spend their entire night in search of food. From dawn until dusk they sleep in the trees, wedged between branches. They are undemanding regarding their habitat and can thus be found in many differing areas, although they prefer warmer climates that lack snow near small villages and farms.
Although they prefer sub-tropical and tropical regions, they can be found in oasis in desert lands as well. In the summer, they often perform a small relocation north before moving back to warmer climates in fall and winter.
Diet
The diet of the Nimrban is more varied than other species, because they are omnivores, eating not only fruits, nuts, seeds and buds, but also insects, spiders, bird eggs and small vertebrates. Nimrban living near water will also eat crabs and shellfish by cracking their shells with stones.
Nimrban that live near villages will often plunder in search of sweets, which appears to be a favorite dish among them. These sweets can range anywhere from jams, fresh fruits, chocolate, or sugared candies.
Organization
Nimrban live together in groups of six to twenty members, that consists of related females and their offspring, as well as several males. Usually a single male, who has primary rights to mate with the females of the group, dominates groups. Although, without a rex (dominate male) a female (cwene) will commonly take the role in overseeing the gaggle. Mutual grooming as well as vocalization serves as communication and stabilization of the group dynamics.
The group has a peaceful and regular lifestyle but when provoked or threatened can be extremely aggressive. Despite their small size, as a group they are capable of driving away larger
Animals or predators.
Combat
Although not a true menace to any human, the Nimrban possess irregular, sharp-teeth that function perfectly for ripping open packages to get to sweets or alternately flesh, while solid back molars are prefect for grinding solid foods. If and when confronted by Human assailants, a Nimrban may pull a different tactic commonly known as “puppy eyes” which can give it a moment of distraction to escape.
A Nimrban will always prefer fleeing to fighting, unless cornered.
Special Abilities
It has a brain that is highly developed, although it is less then that of a human. The Nimrban have also been known to learn to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs. Noted for its long-term tool usage, one of the few examples of primitive tool use other than those employed by apes.
Resistances/Weaknesses
Iron Stomach: Nimrbans are born with strong stomachs, helping them to break down food that would be unpalatable to others. As such, the Nimrban can eat things that would be inedible to other people, and even other
Animals.
Other Notable Information
Nimrbans make excellent exotic pets, however they can be extremely unruly if not properly trained, however, they possess very quick of perception, and learn rapidly.
They do well in captivity providing their inquisitive minds do not succumb to boredom, where then they may prove to be destructive. Despite this fact, their lifespan is normally increased anywhere from three to ten years. In the wild they can reach ages of about fifteen years.
