  • A brief history of the Thëlyri Elves.

    The Elves and the Nymphs

The Thëlyri were separated from the other Trelorean races very early on in the history of the Elves. At this point in time they had not yet separated from the others by blood, but happened to live near the bountiful lakes and rivers. For this reason they were named the Water Elves, a designation based on their geographical setting rather than their race. The true separation, both in blood and in culture, occurred over time, mostly by the breeding and intermarriage with another water-loving species, the Water Nymphs. Co-existence between them and the then "Water Elves" became quite friendly, and intermarriage was not uncommon.

Originally the Thëlyri were a grouping of several small tribes of Trelorean elves that lived close to the rivers and lakes and interbred with Naiads, or Water Nymphs (an exclusively female race) thus giving the offspring of these unions gills, webs, and the ability to breathe and live in water. Despite this, the Thëlyri can still breed with Treloreans, though any Thëlyri offspring will always have gills and those black whites of their eyes, a legacy of their Naiad ancestresses.

    The Relocation of the Thëlyri

Later on in history the Thëlyri wandered off on their own away from the other elven races of Trelore, living first near their river-homes and then later moving to the seafronts and coastlands. Eventually they would settle in the Bellenic Sea of Trelore, making their homes in the kelp forests and much much further down. Deep in the depths of the sea resides the Thëlyri City Tk’hzaar, their place of lore and histories. Gradually the land settlements on the coasts became more sparse, and they interacted and bred with the Treloreans and other elves less. Although their blood was almost totally pure now, they still were different from the Treloreans. The Thëlyri eventually moved themselves, their families and their houses to beneath the sea waves, and faded away from the elves of the lands above and became known as only legends in the histories, though they have been seen occasionally on land since then.

Recently though, the Thëlyri have begun to return to the lands of Trelore in small shy groups and forays, though official contact has been not made and for what reasons no-one knows. The Thëlyri, roamers at heart and the regular explorers of the seas in and around Trelore, were the first race to discover that the Magical Barrier set in place by the Empress Michelle across the Sea of Diana between Trelore and Aelyria had been brought down. It was they who imparted this information unto the other Trelorean elves, that passage across the Sea of Diana is once again able to be made without fear.

    Interactions with Other Races

And yet despite their slightly shy ways as a race as a whole, these elves of neutral standing bear no true Malice to any of the elven races despite their sad histories, nor many of the races to them, though the Vysstichi in general do indeed hate them as they hate all other elves that are not of Vysstichi blood.

    Thëlyri and the Elvish War

The Thëlyri participated heavily in the Elven Wars between the surface elves and also the Vysstichi. The Vysstichi armies and arcane might greatly outweighed that of the Thëlyri and the first few battles of the elven wars that the Thëlyri saw mainly resulted in the complete and total decimation of their forces, which at the time were minimal at best. Only later, in the duration of the wars, did the Thëlyri eventually form the female armies and the male Songmasters. Many of the Post-Elvish Wars were fought with the aid of even the male Tëleris, who by use of Song and in large groups summoned up the powers of the seas to aid their allies and to attempt to lay waste to their enemies. These magics have now long been in disuse and most of the old powers that once were summoned are now forgotten through the passing of the Patterns.
