  • Basilica of Orod

It was, in many ways, not the most prestigious temple in New Coldmoon. The Basilica of Orod was not the largest of the temples in the city, that honour fell to the Cathedral of the Faith being exactly three spans larger in every respect. It was not the most richly outfitted, that honour fell to the Church of Our Blessed Mother of the Harvest, but it was the *second* richest. It did not have the deepest cellars, that honour fell to the reservoirs beneath the Basilica of Markalin, but it did have the second deepest cellars, with only the initiates of Orod having some idea where the many strange doors and twisting passages led.

Even though Orod was a relatively overlooked deity in the grand scheme of things, no major decision were made in New Coldmoon without first passing through these halls. The silent priests of the God of Logic deciding the fate of the city according to ancient rules of cold logic. The many tapestries that filled the halls here did not hold rich scenes of their gods triumph or scenes from the Trance, no this place was filled with cold equations. Even the halls themselves seemed to be just a little colder than was comfortable, for all its grandeur this place did not invite guests. Those who came here were either those who truly believed, or those who had to be.

The interior was not even lit, those who came here brought their own lanterns. Even those lucky enough to be able to see in the dark were stymied by the darkness in this temple, as if it was something more than just a lack of lights. Some said it was an allegory for letting your own logic guide you, others said it was a convenient way to hide whatever secret dealings the Orodites did not want others to know about, yet others claimed it was a real hassle when wanting to get anywhere within the depths of the temple. The Orodite clergy living and working there claimed the pathways were laid out according to divine logic and once properly initiated one did not even need a lantern to find one's way.
