Valanthia L'Evienne
I can't go on. I'll go on.
PC Name:Valanthia L'Evienne
(It's pronounced Val-un-THEE-uh, with the "th" unvoiced as in "Cathy")
Race:
Half human/half vysstichi
Age:
31 (making her about 18 or 19). She was born a decade or so before what you'd think her birthday ought to be, based on that, but she essentially missed that entire time due to an incident with the planetar Kalendryas.
Physical Description:
NOTE: As of the end of Winter, Era XXVI-XXVII, Valanthia's hair is dyed black.
Valanthia is about 5'2", quite short for one with her racial heritage. She is slim, but fit, with the physique of someone who has spent long hours in running and weapons training. Her skin is a medium gray -- not as dark as a full-blooded vysstichi, but certainly a color that marks her as not fully human. Her eyes are a light gray, possibly the clearest sign of her human heritage. She has very pale hair, the unmistakable symbol of her vysstichi blood. If it were not for the fact that most people find her racial heritage objectionable, she would be considered beautiful in an exotic way.
Val has one tattoo, a spiral on her lower back.
Personality:
Valanthia is introverted by nature, a trait that has been reinforced by her life experiences. She prefers to work independently as much as possible, and usually tries to observe before she acts. She is extremely polite, and has a natural deference to authority, though that faith in authority has been profoundly shaken. Fiercely intelligent, and possessed of a remarkable work ethic, Val excels in academic settings. The flip side of this is that she is prone to endless brooding. She lets very few people into her heart, and is difficult to really get to know, though she is extremely devoted to those who are able to get through her shell. Val rarely feels like she "belongs" anywhere or with anyone. The melancholy in her character is hard to miss, though her shyness and sadness are sometimes mistaken for arrogance or diffidence.
In most normal conversations, Val has a stammer, where she will repeat words or pause awkwardly in the middle of sentences. This goes away when she feels like she is in a "classroom" setting, or when her emotions are at a peak.
At her best, Val is disciplined and thoughtful, able to hold complex information in her head, learn new information quickly, and wield her intellect as a weapon; fiercely loyal, and capable of surprising leadership, based on her ability to make persuasive arguments and a remarkable level of personal bravery; especially tender with children, animals, and people who are "outsiders," or who are experiencing personal lows; and poetic, seeing connections between things that appear unrelated on the surface, and appreciating the beauty in all things.
At her worst, Val is sullen, moody, and impossibly withdrawn; self-pitying to the point of self-parody; prone to making wild leaps in conversation that can't be followed by someone not actually inside her mind; possessed of a ferocious temper and the ability to hold grudges forever; only capable of seeing the worst side of everything and everyone; and the owner of a truly terrifying martyr complex.
MBTI: INTP ("The Thinker")
Enneagram: 5w4 ("The Philosopher")
Useful TVTropes: Sugar-and-Ice Personality, Defrosting Ice Queen, Prone to Tears, Stutter Stop
Languages:
Val was raised bilingual in common and vysstichi. Her vysstichi accent marks her as having grown up in Herozzal; her accent in common is much less regional and harder to place.
Val also has a good knowledge of Ancient Aelyrian, gleaned from her studies. She reads much better than she speaks, given that most of her facility with the language has been gained through reading.
She knows a few words and phrases in Eunesian (from living in Ieffreon) and Charismean (from her time spent on Rosie Kyrillos's ship)
Titles/Positions:
Her Royal Highness, Princess Valanthia (No one has said that this title is definitively still hers, but no one has said that it isn't either, so she continues to claim it.)
Recipient, Star of Michelle (for "acts of selflessness beyond simple kindness" related to her work in Syl'rosia)
Professional songwriter (which is the current way that she's earning money)
Former Imperial Consul to the Sultanate of Arakmat
Former Imperial Research Assistant to the Regent
Former(?) Sanguine Assassin. (Whether she still holds this position is open to question, but she's not getting paid for it anymore.)
PC of the Year, 2021 Aelyrian Awards
The PC You Can Always Trust To Have Your Back (tie), 2021 Aelyrian Awards
Most Neurotic PC (tie), 2008 Aelyrian Awards
Religious Views:
Val does not have a deity that she worships; encounters with the divine have rarely ended in positive results for her. She is especially down on Haya (as a result of growing up in Herozzal), Jorel and Jalat (for interfering with the Sundering), and Kalendryas (who didn't answer her questions, and instead threw her out of the timeline for a decade, plus everything with the Sundering). The only divine being of any kind that Val thinks well of is Saint Bossa, who defeated the necromancer, and then was able to help Val save Gye'ron's life in the Camena Ruins.
Pre-RP History:
Valanthia is the oldest of two children by five minutes or so; she has a twin brother, Salai, with whom she is not particularly close. She spent all of her formative years in Herozzal. Her father, Rioughe L’Evienne, was a noted womanizer and never married her mother. He did, however, care for the family financially. Her mother, Ka'terra, had been a simple shop clerk before Valanthia was born; she has worked occasionally since then, but for the most part has been content to live on the money that Rioughe brought with him during his periodic visits.
She was a taciturn child, but was an almost disturbingly singleminded student, and regularly brought home the highest marks in her class. Val's home life was relatively peaceful despite her father's usual absence, but she has ambivalent feelings about both of her parents and little in common with her brother. Her scholarly bent was at odds with her mother's unchallenging love of simple pleasures, and though she appreciated her father's willingness to spend time with her when he was in town, she found they often had nothing to talk about.
Her half-human heritage made her something of a semi-pariah among her peers, and much of the culture of Herozzal left a rather negative impression on her, though she absorbed more of it than she would care to admit. As such, she left home as soon as it could be arranged, while she was still in the uneasy twilight of late adolescence. She had accumulated a fair amount of money from Rioughe's gifts to her over the eras. Late in the summer of Era XII PF, a real estate speculator drifted into town -- very much a rarity, given the closed nature of the city -- and Valanthia purchased from her the deed to a small home in Taralon, that being the farthest away place that Val could think of at the time. Very soon thereafter, she set out for her new abode.
