Straylor Felix Leonard

Merchant Prince Old Lion.jpeg
"What happened in the mortal realm when the gods themselves were at war? ...
how did one kill an immortal being? Then again, the inversion of Diana-Didis had changed everything.
In a very real way, Aerysia had lost her innocence. The world itself seemed somehow older, wiser... harder.
Just like one Straylor Felix Thaddean Leonard."

His Exalted Excellency and Grace, the Lord Baron Straylor Felix Thaddean Léonard is a Medonian whose ancestors immigrated from Eunesia. He is known as Stray or Felix to family and friends. During the reign of Prince Milo the First, he served as Royal Consul and then Royal Governor of Eunesia. For his service, he was granted the barony of Trysvale and over all the lands owned by House Leonardes'. He has sworn vengeance upon Haya and the Xet and is a known loyalist to the Throne of Eternity'. Since the ascension' of Empress Rhysatra the First, he has fought alongside Imperial, Lysandrian, and Provincial armies in the Western Realms to suppress the Xet invaders.
While he is generous and loyal to his friends and eagerly seeks to defend the people and the Empire, he is also intelligent, calculating, and ruthless. One of the wealthiest men in the Empire, he is effectively also one of the most powerful due to his position among the Peerage and his powers as an former Archmage prior to his transformation into a Grandmaster Spellbreaker. His driving force is to secure a place in history and to live the rest of his brightenings in a united Empire. Straylor is often at odds with other factions, including House de Lylles and her vassals.
He is stands just above six feet or 184 centimeters with broad shoulders and a medium build. Straylor's has almond-colored hair though he sported auburn locks as a boy and teenager. While he prefers to keep mane of hair and beard somewhat unruly, formalities generally force him to keep it short and neat. His bright hazel eyes are lightly lined by the worries and concerns of much older men. Following his quest in the Golden Glade, the scars that once marred his body were washed away leaving only the twin runes on his palms: that of a skeletal tree and a half-eaten leaf. They are constant reminders of Straylor's failings as a follower of Carmelya and ascension at the hand of Xinarius'. Following his return from being marooned on the moon Melora, Straylor has become more reclusive and spends most of his time as a Reificator (Enchanter). Since the Summer of Era XXVI, streaks of silver line his dark hair and cropped beard. His experience on the Moon dramatically changed his outlook and plans for the future of Trysvale and the Trade Republic.

Biography

"The weariness of centuries of woe undue his young age was plainly evident on Straylor Leonard's face,
standing in stark contrast to the brightness of his eyes and the strength of his human form.
He had thought himself to be a protector, the last and greatest line of defense, but fate, it seemed,
had taught him that courage could only get him so far and that the struggle he fought would be never-ending."
-- Tiyribi Andares'

Straylor Leonard is the son of Felix Leonard, a successful merchant, and Thelma Thaddean, a tenured professor of Arcana at the Maeveon Collegio De Enamora. He was born and raised in Medonia, in the Province of Enamoria. His father's businesses allowed him to travel throughout the Western Realms at an early age. Along with his father's wealth and boyish good looks, he was quite the heart breaker in his youth. His boyhood was filled with various activities ranging from enforced dance lessons to the occasional choir practice in the Church of Faith. But while he traveled with his father, Straylor amused himself by composing his own tunes that he'd perform in taverns along the way.
But things were not always so colorful. Straylor's father moved to Medonia with an infant in his arms. The babe's mother was too sick to carry on and decided to return home to her beloved Eunesia not too long after bearing their son. With his heart broken, Felix Leonard sought a fresh start, a new beginning for himself and young Ci'aran.
Brutal winters led to bitter springs as the two struggled to survive. Poverty was always an unwelcome guest, but when it knocked one could never deny it room and board. Yet as father and son carried on, Felix fell in love with a young lecturer at the local college.
After a brief courtship, the couple were married after a few eras. Having come from wealthier stock, Thelma's parents paid for much of the newly wed’s expenses. It was the happiest times of Felix's life, but perhaps only a prelude to his half-elven son's suffering. By then, Ci'aran was nearing the end of his Schola training. By the time Felix's eldest son neared his 12th Summer, Straylor Felix Leonard was born.
Though Thelma usually admitted to having fostered a half-elf through her husband, Felix, she attempted to hide that fact just as much. Whenever her friends or family visited, she would somehow send Ci'aran off to do some chores or elsewhere for ‘errands’. And when she could not hide him, Thelma simply ignored him along with any questions or concerns that pertained to him. Nothing would take everyone focus off her tiny glimpse of heaven in the form of her healthy baby boy. One brightening, Ci'aran was sent to run more false errands while his stepmother mingled with some old friends. He never returned. Felix was made aware of this but it bothered him little -- if at all.
Straylor never knew of all these things, of course. As a boy, he was raised with all care and luxury that his parents could afford. Strangely enough, his father's business steadily grew and prospered after Ci'aran's departure. From then on, he made no effort to keep his eldest son's memory alive and even made strict orders to clear the house of any possessions he may have left.
Eras ebbed onward, patterns passed and Straylor grew into the man his mother always dreamed he would become. He was headstrong, a little bit too sure of himself, and was definitely a favorite among the ladies. He had a stomach fit for an emperor and a taste for wine that ran his father's accounts to astonishing amounts. Still, they endorsed him. He was their favorite, their 'only son' as they often claimed. But secrets had a way of coming to light. When or how that would come to pass was left to Fate and the gods.
After over forty eras doing business all around the Empire, Straylor's father decided to retire in the pleasant shore-side city of Iefferon. So his son was given a choice: take up the family business and become a merchant, or set out and find his own calling. It took a lot of thinking, and perhaps a bit more drink at the Suns (a local tavern by the Eunesian seaside). But after several candlemarks' worth of contemplation, Straylor decided that it would be best to find his calling back home in Medonia.
He was a twenty summers young when he set off on his own with his parent's blessings. And with that, his journey began.

Era XI - XIV (2007-2009) "Beginnings"

Starting in Medonia, Traveling to Natura, and then 'ending up' in Tearsfall.
After spending most of his coin on booze and wenches, a very young Straylor Leonard is sober long enough to realize that he needs a job. Naively thinking that soldiers got all the fame and glory, he signs up with the Medonian Guard. His first patrol ends up with him fending off a gnomish contraption to save a few mousai children. Other patrols were much more exciting, with one in particular that could have turned much more deadly if not for Straylor’s talent with the sword and shield. After trying to keep a caravan from being raided by orcs, Straylor was forced to team up with an initiate sorcerer. This was how he met Ceniel during one of these unlucky outings. And the pair have been good friends since. Near the end of the following year, Straylor joined the festivities at NIa’s where he first meets the saurid Pescado Branch, then-Lord Governor of Enamoria, and Rougenoe who would later become Lord Thane of Medonia, Lord Consul of the Enamorian Province, and Straylor’s best man at his wedding. Straylor thought about applying for a permanent position with the Guards. But wanderlust took him farther into the Western Realms. Later that same winter, he arrives in Natura and is awestruck by the beauty and serenity afforded by its Enchanted Glade. While there, Straylor frequented the gardens and temples of the forest sanctuary. He extends his knowledge in the healing arts and even gains an audience with the Archdruidess Dhwae the following springtime. Straylor did not allow his swordsmanship to rust, however, frequently practicing and sparring with other travelers like himself. During the Prima Vera festivals, he meets the ranger S’Lon, Venn, and Asial, whom he drunkenly flirts with until they spar. All around the Empire, astronomers and professors debate the meaning of the new constellations in the heavens. Straylor couldn’t care less, though, as he sought his own destiny in the fields of the Carmelyn. (Continued)

Era XV - XVI (2010-2011) "A Simple Life"

A stopover in a sleepy farming hamlet called Tearsfall turns into a lifelong endeavor; the wanderer becomes a farmer, chief constable, and Lord Protector; a trip to see the famous Skyriders lead to a fateful encounter at the gates of Archadoon.
Straylor arrives in the township formerly called “Tearsfall” mid-spring of Era XV. Inspired by Dhwae and the druids in Natura, Straylor immediately seeks counsel from the Druids Copse after securing a homestead along the Northern Road. Within a span of a few months, Straylor’s life would change forever. His newfound abilities as a druid and talents as a merchant would earn him fortune seemingly overnight. Still, Straylor’s passion to serve the people of Trysvale spurred him to accept the office of Chief Constable. This would inevitably earn him a few powerful enemies, as well as a lifelong friendship with the Tinks. Between his time with the constabulary, managing his growing fields, and honing his skills with both sword and magic, Straylor met Iseult and his half-brother Ci’aran. Though his brother would eventually disappear from his life again, Straylor, Izzy, and Rougenoe would continue to cross paths in the coming decades. The trio even managed to get into a bit of trouble aboard Jorel’s Barracuda, earning Rougenoe a djinn familiar and Straylor the nickname “Monsieur Banana” during the adventure. After a short courtship, and making plans for the future, on the Winter of Era XV, Straylor and Elmaryia were married Prosperity Square before all their friends and family'.(Continued)

Era XVII - XXI (2012-2014) "The Wars to Come"

Tragedy follows the newly married couple to Frigid River; the young Lord Protector must protect his town from the Longest Winter; the Royal Governor is decried Xénos Igemónas; an Archdruid is tasked to build the Bridge to Nevermore in Kel'rondar; the Plague Queen finds a new 'hero'; the War of Succession begins; the Throne of Eternity chooses a new Empress; and the Xetan Wars spread death and destruction throughout the Western Realms.
Straylor's morals were tested when a thief's botched attempt to mug Elmaryia in Frigid River resulted in a near-fatal stabbing that ended her first pregnancy. In his grief and fury, Straylor hunted down, tortured, and maimed the female thief in a bitter act of vengence. In the end, however, Elmaryia discovered the mutilated female thief on her deathbed, rescued her from her captors, and promised to care for her baby daughter. This little girl is adopted by Elmaryia's home unbeknownest to her husband at first.

The Longest Winter also seemed to age the young politician considerably, giving Straylor additional lines along his forehead and increased his generosity and passion for the poor and suffering. When a hurricane threatened to make landfall on the Libertine Peninsula, the Master Druid intercepted it -- only to find that it was magical in nature. Straylor followed it back to Demios where he teamed up with Faust D'Rinishad and Klue Malinconico, among others, to stop the Champion of Ainlar and rescue the Blue Dragon, Tal’sha, from being consumed by the Planetar of Hate, Wrath, and Vengence. After rescuing the townspeople and defeating Ainlar's champion, Tal'sha rewards her rescuers with a single Tear of Heronythys.
Prior to becoming Governor, Straylor was kidnapped by Mer during a season of violence between the islanders and the underwater race. Since then, Stray has developed a deep prejudice against the race, and is always seeking a means to avenge the wrongs done on Ieffreonians during their raids.
The Tempris Ball' caused much drama for the new Governor. He was detained and Duncan Scythe was asked to use Mysticism to determine Straylor's innocence. Even though Straylor views Duncan as a decent enough man, his dislike for Mysticism only grew exponentially after the experience. He's also developed a startling dislike for the self-righteous Serion D'Rinishad.
The development of Straylor's grandmaster spell, Symbiosis, effectively removed the need for the aspiring Arch Druid to eat, drink, and sleep in the mundane sense. The spell is used to be absorb major nutrients from any nearby woodland or garden without significantly harming flora and fauna of the location. To reduce the parasitic attributes of the complex spell, Straylor usually consumes meat or fish before the three to five candlemarks required for him to fully 'sleep'. Additional uses of the spell allows the Baron to fully replenish his Vis by absorbing it from his environment or unwitting foes.
His travels to Kel'rondar and Fae'rel allowed Straylor to ascend to the rank of Archmage ... but at what cost?' After discovering the nefarious motives behind the Kel'rondarians' actions -- to hunt down and kill a faerie dragon and use its corpse as a reagent to build the Bridge to Neverwhere -- Straylor made his way to Fae'rel and fled, but not before he was warned by a woman's voice whom he assumed was Carmelya that redemption can only be found there.
The end of Summer Era XVIII taught Straylor a lesson in cruelty and deceit. The Plague Queen Haya tricked Straylor and Fizden into stealing the Scepter of Orod and subsequently aided their endeavors into delivering the artifact into her hands at the Pantheon'. To "reward" her heroes, Straylor Vis was Branded -- effectively turning him into Haya's 'champion' for a time. This gave him the ability to summon powerful Plague Gryphons but at the cost of spreading the Plague Queen's favorite forms of pestilence wherever they went. The ordeal inflicted scars throughout his body, particularly his cherished face making him look strikingly different. Following the traumatizing event, Straylor remained secluded and refused even the company of his wife and children. He blamed his naivety for the catastrophic mistake that allowed Haya to remove the Scepter of Orod from the protection of the Ancient Aelyrians. As the Age of Heroes began, so too did a new, darker chapter begin for Straylor Leonard.
The desertion of the legions from Carmelya was trivial compared to the outbreak of conflicts throughout the Eastern Realm. The Eunesian Crisis left Straylor exiled as Governor of Eunesia and left the isles isolated from the mainland again. The Ariumite Blockade, seemingly aided by Jaedaxia, led to the first summoning of the Ariumite Estates. But those signs of progress were shadowed by the Director General's apparent suicide not long after, and the start of the Succession Crisis. Straylor met with his old friend Alexis again, and the Regent was reminded that the people needed to be led. These developments forged Straylor into a much more relentless creature of action and he now embraces an his role as the Shield of Carmelya. This was only reinforced by his experiences in the Dollwoods after meeting with the Queen of the Fae.
During the same trip to the Dollwoods, Straylor also gained wisdom from the Council of Treants of the Golden Glade. There, he learned the source of his doubts and fears, as well as knowledge regarding an Archmage spells and the techniques and reagent required to cast it. Upon casting it on himself, Straylor erased all the scarring, blemishes, and other 'imperfections' up to Spring of Era XIX excluding the mysterious silver scales. His body has also been permanently renewed by the spell, removing at least five ordinations from his apparent and physical age. His now moves with a youthful vigor he has not felt since the Longest Winter.
During the unexpected arrival of Rhysatra and the thousands who suddenly flew her banners, the reluctant Empress marched onto the First City joined by new allies, foes, and would-be-traitors to the Throne. A skirmish just outside the city led to Alexis' and Roscranis' sudden departure. They were later found and returned to the Capital at the urging of the newly crowned Empress. Following the Battle of Aelyria Prime, Straylor was infused with the power of the new Crown of Eternity. This granted him significant battlefield, combat, and tactical prowess.
It would appear that these wartime abilities would soon be of frequent use.
The rise of the Empress was followed by the invasion of the Xet. The Fog dissipated from the Western Realms to reveal the terrors laying in wait behind the curtain of death. Lauryl fell first and the swarm soon looked to Enamoria and Centripax. By the time Straylor and the other forces form the Eastern Realms arrived, Medonia had already fallen. With a heavy heart, Straylor, Veleraen, and other defenders of the Empire defended Port Alyxandrya brought down Xetan airships with the Infinitree of Treedom hurled by the Titan of Aslan', and defended Arium in their last stand in Aslangrad by killing the Wallbreaker Wyrm.
Near the end of Spring XXI, the Lady Governor of Enamoria summoned all the heroes of the land to retake Medonia once and for all'. As expected, Straylor, Rougenoe, Iseult, Riven Stokes, and Veleraen were in the vanguard. House de Lylles' lapdog was also there but Straylor never saw him once on the field of battle, having disappeared to the rear of the column with his servants and bodyguards while Enamorians bled and died defending the Empire.

Era XXI - XXV (2015-2018) "The Dark Below"

The Eclipse of Chaos reveals the dark gods' victory against the heavens; Diana falls from grace; the Dollwoods turn to Glass; Straylor duels the Master of Direwood Castle; the Argent Prince's raid party is marooned on the Moon.
On his birth-brightening 28 Immanis in Era XXI Post Fractum, Straylor's powers inverted and transformed'. Since then, he retained all his prowess in magic but was shut out from the Astral Plane. Instead the newborn grandmaster had to relearn the secrets of his craft whilst modifying and improvising unique methods and rituals to augment his spellbreaking abilities.
His first act as a grandmaster was to cleanse the Solace Isle and harvest the contamination he wrought there. Straylor learned that magic produced poisonous clouds that mundane and magi call arcane contamination. While harmful in excess, the cancerous byproducts of magecraft can also be turned into a utility by skilled hands and keen minds. He learned to craft magical items, armor, and weapons in this manner to augment his arsenal against the dark gods.
Returning to Medonia, Straylor took to cleansing the Unicorn Plaza and the Enamorian Midlands and discovered that a massive mysticism-sorcery spell was responsible for the initial devastation alongside his unintended use of Anti-Nature. By sacrificing his former Staff of Arcana, Straylor was able to cleanse all the waterways, wells, and streams within and around Medonia -- but at great cost. The Anti-Nature and other contaminants were instead transferred to the Medonian Glade. There, strange creatures and sentient animals began to rise up and refused to allow the rebuilding efforts to continue. With a heavy heart, the Spellbreaker attempted to remove the Anti-Nature Contamination with a ritual. By connecting the contaminated Midlands with the Glade, Straylor inevitably tethered himself to the Heart of the World as well, permanently sealing the Glades in Medonia and forever altering the Dollwoods -- the trees, leaves, and undergrowth become glass-like.
The end of the Xetan Wars and the Eunesian Blockade marked the start of Straylor's wanderings throughout Telath. Disillusioned by endless wars and his abrupt exile from Eunesia, Straylor was suddenly aimless and lost. During his travels, he met an injured Mer on the road in Lauryl. After bringing the stranger to a village and nursing him to health, Straylor discovered that the merman had been a victim of slavers. After there, the Baron found that the pirates had been coerced to send human sacrifces through a portal by a demon. Straylor ventured into the unknown to discover strange beasts and monsters. At the edge of the dark dimension, he dueled the Master of Direwood Castle and minions Jackal-Face et. al'.
After reaching the zenith of his abilities in the sword and shield, Straylor returned to the Material Plane and vowed to undo the harm he had unwittinly unleashed into the world. He spent his time returning to sites of arcane contamination and harvested the dangerous energy for safekeeping. He began in the Solace Isles and Trysvale before attempting to cleanse Estelgorod. But a dark heart of entropy and other contamination seemed to have taken root in its ruins. When he returned to Trsyvale, Straylor found a new generation of spellbreakers to teach and mentor all over the Carmelyn. On a visit to Klue and Hay'aan in Demios, he persuaded the grandmaster gadgeteer to combine their talents into designing and building airships using their unique blend of technology and reification'. In another collaboration, Straylor designed and constructed a unique enchantment with special benefits with the Governor and Duchess of Middle Telath'.
The Argent Prince invites all the heroes of the Xetan Wars to Ziel Aerca and announces his plan: to end the Xetan menace once and fall all'. And the coup d'etat would be to strike their homeland with the moon. Tiyribi politely declines the invitation and blasts them off at the speed of light'. Things do not go as planned (as if the Archsorceress had been right all along) and everyone is effectoively marooned on Melora.
While Straylor hallucinates and/or dreams that he was is back at the Crown Inn & Tavern, he 'meets' several people whom he had never seen before in his life. This was very sus. Oh, and there were werewolves.
Straylor survives thanks only to his ability to wrap materials and create makeshift equipment and tools. He forages for food in the lunar forests, explores the bizarre and colorful landscape, and eventually joining forces with a stranded Lunarian'. They retrieve the spellbreaker's lost spellbreaking seeds and tools, including some of his precious seeds. With these reagents, and the Lunarian's mastery over magic as an Ancient Aelyrian, the pair are able to produce enchantments in preparation for their suicide mission into the Lunar Dragon's lair'.

Era XXVI - XXVIII (2019 -- 2024) "Homecoming"

Straylor returns from Melora; the Empire crumbles after the Nightlands Forces attacks Prime; Rhysatra is thought to be killed in action; is this the end of the Aelyrian Empire?
Straylor's outlook dramatically changed after his return from Melora.
While recovering from the ordeal during Spring Era 26th, he sought out the other survivors from the Argent Prince's failed expedition. One of his messengers eventually found Pescado Branch, the new leader of the surviving saurids, who was infected by a Xet God. Together, they made preparations for the Arch Mystic's confrontation and quest into hostile Xet territories'.
Straylor discussed his vision for Trysvale and the Trade Republic with his good friend Klue Malinconico' after a pleasant reunion. They worked on several new projects together including the creation of a new tower and improved airships. When they learned about the attacks in Prime and Candaceberg, Straylor rode to the Crown Province at his old friend, Faust's, invitation. There he met a rather motley gathering of nobles, mages, and ex-Toys'. Straylor then sought out his former bodyguards, Marcos and Rizal, who served in the First Legion after reaching the First City'.
Straylor sought the former Wolf Imperatis and Lord of Towersvale in the Summer of Era 26. Instead, Straylor found others to ride out toward the Camena Ruins to root out the bandits who were using the ruins as a stronghold to stage raids all along the Kingsroad and Northern Road'. After a successful raid, the Baron met with some of the heroes, including a new squire and potential griffin rider for his household knights', an aspiring healer who agreed to partner with the spellbreaker', and forged trollskin armor for the newly-annointed Dame of the Knights of Libertas'.
After running into a band of outlaws along the Plains of Europa' during the midsummer months, Straylor learned that deserters and former legionnaires throughout the Eastern Realms have turned to banditry following the slow decay of the Legions' chain of command. The Baron has taken it upon himself to ensure that former soldiers do not turn to crime following their service in order to stem the spread of lawlessness in the North.
His desire to uncover the secrets of the tri-talisman technology led Straylor, Klue, Faust, and Sliucha back to the Solace Isle at the end of Summer 26th. There they battled colossal monsters and baby Xet colossi for loot and glory'.
After harvest in Autumn Era 26th, Straylor went to Moonstone on his first visit since the fateful lunar expedition. There he met the ClawKnights and the new Lady of Moonstone at her tower'. There he learned about Vireylda Saharn's unique abilities as a shadowmancer in addition to being the first known Arch Necromancer since Avanthar's rise to power.
--
During one visit to Primus Gaudeo, Straylor meets a dwarven merchant and runs into a former associate and mercenary'. In that same season of Spring Era 27th, they broke ground in Terenshire to build a windmill similar to the ones that towered over Trysvale. While not as imposing, it was designed to serve a similar purpose'.
Before harvest' in the Summer of the 27th Era reached the former Carmelyn, Straylor met a very persistent and ambitious artist'. Alexis also decided to show his face around Autumn to everyone's surprise and amusement'.
At the end of Autumn of the 27th Era, Straylor met with the Good Doctor of Arkdün'. Their meeting was interrupted by rumors of Lamian assassins murdering townspeople in Prosperity Square. Despite their best efforts, the Baron and Barthelme were unable to track and kill the Lamian agents. This event would later be called the Prosperity Square Massacres and it marks a dark new chapter in Straylor's personal campaign to find those responsible for those atrocities.
In the Winter of Era 27, Straylor hones his blacksmithing skill toward unlocking the properties and applications of the extraplanar materials he has collected over the eras'.
--
For months prior to the turn of the 27th Era, letters were ferried by airships designed and created by the Count Malinconico to House Leonardes' allies from Jaedaxia all the way to Moonstone. He appealed to the great houses of the Trade Republic, the minor nobles dotting the Eastern Realms, and even sought the swords and spears of sellswords and adventurers guilds. The historias, he hoped, would be rewritten at Caronis Keep in the Spring of the 28th Era. (Continued)
During Imperos, Summer of the 28th Era, Straylor hosted an impromptu ball and festival on the estate grounds. There he met some fascinating artisans', including a talented pixie alchemist'. He event met a young rogue', and Usira was kind enough to make a cameo.
On the anniversary of the Prosperity Square Massacre in Autumn of the 28th Era, the Baron held a memorial with the townspeople and other survivors to commemorate their fallen loved ones, friends, and neighbors. Straylor was surprised to find the Good Doctor of Arkdün in the gathering. But their impromptu meeting would lead to an uncanny discovery' and new plans for Trysvale's Two Towers.
After harvest season in the Autumn of Era 28, Straylor ventured north to visit Tal K'Pazhawrl's vineyard' and discuss plans about his new Association of Eastern Jaedaxia. Though the Baron's reason for visiting the capital of the Trade Republic was varied, his primary objective was to request a meeting with the governor and marquis' Richelieu de Mer.
After meeting a pitstop at ClawKnight Tower in early winter, Straylor makes his way toward Imperia where hoped to learn more about the Theocracy and the Xet's plans among the 'free cities' and within the Sultanate's domain'.
At the end of Winter Era 28, he set off to the edges of the Arakmatian sands where the Baron would confront his gravest fears of a future Xetan attack upon the Empire'.
During Spring Era 29, Straylor returned to the Dolwoods'.

Era XXIX - XXX (2025 and beyond) "Homeland"

House Leonardes h1.png

House Léonardés is currently led by the Lord Baron Straylor Felix Leonard. He is married to the Baroness Elmaryia Grey Leonard and they have several adopted children. The modern Léonardés sigil is a gold shield with two griffins on a scarlet banner. Though historical and traditional variations had one lion for each brother and twin primus lions during the Xetan Wars.
House Léonardés is one of the great noble houses in the Imperium. The Barony of House Léonardés rules over tens of thousands of acres throughout Northumbria, the Refuge of Medonia, the Crownlands, and the Directorate of Arium. Its seat of power is in the Trade Republic of Northumbria among the misty pastures of Trysvale. The Baron's traditional home is Harvest Hall in Trysvale. Its castle-seat currently remains in Jaedaxia's Château de Lumière' and the Baroness her children used to spend their summers on the Mikró Kókkino Nisí or the Little Red Island, a piece of paradise off the coast of Secyclion.

History

Background

Before its true prominence during the Regency of Milo the First and His Royal Excellency's rise to the rank of Prince of the New Kingdom of Aelyria, House Léonardés was a minor merchant House of immigrants in Eunesia. A Medonian by the name of Richard Lyon Leonarde traveled from his native city in Enamoria to the sunny isles of Eunesia to begin what would become the bread and butter of his long list of profitable ventures.
On his fiftieth ordination, Richard and Anabelle was blessed with their youngest son whom they named Maximilian. Raised by his mother and his three sisters after Richard passed, the young Maximilian possessed a hurricane of talents ranging from a keen sense with numbers and enjoyed a myriad of sports -- rivaling even the local Eunesians. And by the time Max was a young man, he enlisted in the Eunesian Navy and quickly rose in its ranks. But at this time he also grew to love another -- his bride-to-be, Elizabeth. The two were married a few eras later, and Maximilian received an honorary discharge from the navy. Maximilian and Elizabeth were to bear six sons, and most family friends and relatives joked that Max succeeded in compensating for his father's lack of male heirs.
From the time his sons were able to walk, Maximilian drilled them in the methods he learned and mastered in the military. Each of his sons quickly took to the regiment and grew up to become excellent athletes and prominent figures in Olympia's premiere naval academy -- that is, all of his sons save for one: Felix. While his brothers ceaselessly challenged their peers and superiors in spars and sports, the young Felix avoided every possible militaristic pursuit he could in a naval academy. It was a feat, to say the least, which frustrated and disappointed his father.
But no more than Elizabeth. Some say that her heart broke every time her baby boys were turned from stumbling toddlers into bold, fierce soldiers. And it was no surprise to many when she passed after her son Felix fled their home on darkening after a heated argument with his father. It would only be later that Felix's father and brothers would discover that he actually eloped that same darkening, marrying his beloved Aylelle D'Astaryn.
Ironically, it was young Felix who was the first among his brothers to ever bear legitimate heirs. Maximilian died after witnessing the talents he worked so hard to hone and nurture revert to abominations: his firstborn, Alphonse, was sent to the Goal for killing two sailors in a drunken brawl; Bartram, the lady's man of the six, was dishonorably discharged from the military pending further disciplinary action after his 'relations' with several of his commanding officers' wives surfaced; Clarence turned mercenary and began to seek his future elsewhere, away from the dishonor of his brothers; Darius managed to pawn what remaining assets the House previously owned, and eventually disappeared as well; Edward, however, joined an order of priests and was thought to have changed his name in an effort to finally move on.

Prestige and Influence

While the nobility have historically been barred from raising their own armies for fear of treason, many major houses typically employ footmen, personal guards, and household knights of their own which can often times number in the many hundreds.
As a merchant house with enormous tracts of land, fleets ships, and trading caravans, House Leonardes could easily raise men-at-arms in times of crisis with coin alone. During times of peace, the Baron and Baroness have no less than a few score servants, footmen, household guards, and sworn knights who serve House Leonardes.
Trysvale's position at the edge of the Eastern Realms give it great security and abundance while the Western Realms begin the long road to recovery after the Xet Invasion. House Leonardes also maintained keeps and way stations that stand watch over the roads between Arium and Northumbria. These include the West Phoenix Keep and Lions Keep.
Not one to openly flaunt their wealth like the nouveau-riche, the Baron prefers his modest brick manor in Trysvale. But when duty and obligation from the Trade Republic's capital calls for it, the Baron and Baroness resides at their castle-seat in Château de Lumière in Jaedaxia's Southern Quarter. They also own a kástro on the Little Red Island called the Crimson Citadel, which is a fortified dwelling of ancient Secyclid design.

Titles & Relationships

As head of House Leonardes, Baron of the North, former Thane of Trysvale, former Consul and exiled Governor of Eunesia, Knight Commander of the New Order, and Hunter of Immortals, Straylor has plenty of enemies and allies alike.
The most stalwart of his friends are among those who fought alongside him in the eras of war during his lifetime. These include longtime comrades such as Ceniel, Rougenoe, Veleraen, Faust Kitrye'veresi, Klue Malinconico, among many others.
There are also those who would have his head on a pike. Chief among them is House de Lylles' little errand boy, Roscarnis de Lylles and his cronies. The Lysandrians were only able to keep their titles and power because of their vast wealth and private armies. Not even outright treason could keep the Lysandrians from maintaining their dynasty, a fact that Straylor despises.

Master Swordsman

(Level 4 Sword & Shield, 100+ Experience Points)'

"The fiend tried to swat at Straylor with its other arm, but as it brought its hand to bear, the nimble warrior somersaulted forward, tucking his knees in and stabbing his sword out behind him as he vaulted over the beast and towards the ground again. His aim struck true, Vampyre scoring a precise hit in between the back of the beast’s skull and neck. Green ooze started to pour out of the freshly-cut laceration, but unlike the slashes to the ram-headed monster’s legs, this one got it screaming . . . in pain... The creature fell to its knees in a deafening thud! Emerald blood continued to leak from its neck."
-- GM Striker, What Shall a Man Profit ...'

Straylor's favored fighting style is derived from the classical forms of Lauryl and Enamoria. During the initial stages of his career as a soldier, he learned how to wield the sword and buckler which balanced offensive and defensive capabilities. This was developed further as he advanced in training and experience during his travels. As Chief Constable, he mastered the Kemite styles of swordplay that emphasized speed and agility above brute strength. This achievement was solidified by his frequent use of masteries, one-of-a-kind maneuvers or special techniques developed by elite warriors of Zinn'Sunn.
Following the Eclipse of Chaos, however, Straylor turned to a more brutal style of swordplay. The Hydra Form emphasized a kill-or-be-killed mentality, which turned Straylor into a weapon rather than an officer of peace. The masteries involved in the Hydra Form focused on using any and all advantages and tools to secure victory. In the past, he has familiarized himself with various other martial arts including the Imperial Spear', javelin, archery, and unarmed combat'.
Straylor's fighting style further evolved during his exile. Lost and left for dead on the Moon, the swordmaster was forced to confront Melora's apex predators. It was there that he learned how to combine his spellbreaking with his sword and shield'. He developed powerful new maneuvers and crafted enhancements to both Leviathan and his Secyclion shield before stealing an airship from the Lunar Dragon's lair and returning home.

Sword & Shield Maneuvers'

:sword1b: Pommel Strike (Veteran, Mastered) "...you are allowed to use the whole sword."
As a guard and Chief Constable, Straylor learned how to disarm and disable opponents using various arm locks and pommel strikes. These are generally non-lethal. When performed by an Elite or Master, strikes to the head, neck, or vital organs can be fatal.
🛡️ Castle Wall (Veteran, Mastered) "The best defense ..."
The warrior can use his shield to hide his intentions and movements, particularly the placement of his primary weapon. In close quarters, the swordsman can also strike with his buckler or shield to disorient or provoke his opponent(s) to attack or compromise their position and formation. When performed by an Elite or Master, Shield Bashes can disarm or disable opponents by striking at joints and other shatter points with deadly precision.
:armor1b: One Hundred Shields (Elite, Mastered) "Where your sword ends, your shield begins ..."
The classical forms of Lauryl and Zinn'Sunn emphasized grace and fluidity. Circular movements with sword and shield formed a nearly-impregnable defense in close quarters. When performed by a sword master, this traditional Kemite form can shrug block missiles as easily as blades by blending sword and shield into rapid, spinning movements that make the user seem like a blur.
⚔️ One Thousand Swords (Elite, Mastered) " ... your blade is unrelenting!"
Using another sequence from the classical forms of Lauryl and Zinn'Sunn, the warrior can make one sword look like one thousand. By attacking from all angles, the swordsman can overwhelm a single foe or defend against many. When performed by a sword master, this traditional Kemite form can deflect missiles as easily as blades by creating a seamless barrier of steel.
:bow3c: Way of the Hydra (Elite, Mastered) "...become the monster."
This brutal and deadly form was created by the Old Man of Secyclion. Unlike the Kemite forms of Ancient Lauryl, this modern style emphasizes victory at all costs. The chaotic sequences are improvised, acrobatic, and unpredictable like its namesake. Combining feints, underhanded tactics, terrain, and magic, the warrior channels their body and mind into a singular, violent purpose, attacking with every possible skill and tool at their disposal. Straylor learned how to use the fundamentals of ranged weapons (javelin, archery, etc.) in order to supplement his abilities and understanding of the art of war.
:helmet1a: Direwood Demon (Mastery) "Gotcha, you stupid bitch' ..."
Channeling decades of conditioning and his mastery over body and mind, the sword master can move at preternatural speeds at will. When using this ability, Straylor can run faster than a flying demon. The swordmaster's attacks also become nearly imperceipable to the naked eye, his slashes becoming liquid lightning.
:helmet1b: Way of the Nazghari (Mastery) "You're trapped on the moon with me ' ..."
Named after the two-tailed apex predators of Melora, the Way of the Nazghari is a Sequence or series of Maneuvers' that mimic the lunar wolf's deadly dance. The master swordsman uses acrobatic movements and sudden, unpredictable attacks and feints to disorient and confuse their foes. One master can appear to become one dozen. Nazghari hunt in packs but the lunar wolves have the uncanny ability to Blink or short-range Teleport. The master can mirror these guerilla tactics by alternating between high-speed attacks and long pauses to torment and tire their foes. By combining his mastery over the magical and the mundane, Straylor can also merge his spellbreaking abilities with his mastery over the sword and shield. Anything in close proximity to him is instantaneously warped to become brittle and soft while his weapons turn armor, clothes, flesh, and anything else into little more than minced meat.
🛡️ Shield Breaker (Mastery) "... It looks like they're lining up"
Straylor can skillfully throw his shield at dazzling speeds toward his foes. He can also angle the attack so that he can strike multiple opponents in a single throw. His reified bracer recalls his shield back to his grasp. The return route can be used to deliver additional killing blows by positioning his targets in between the trajectory of his shield.

Former Archmage of Druidism

(200+ Experience Points)'
"The elf watched through the eyes of the archdruid, peering into his mind – the labyrinths and catacombs, the branches of creation, and the spires of magical creation. So, this was a fragment of creation. It was perhaps the sphere most directly opposed to his; this brightening, he saw how true that was. The archdruid had taken the first step in realizing the need for change. And now, he realized the will to excise that change. But will alone would not be enough."
-- Shei'yein Neydremi, on the Archdruid Leonard '
While Straylor's swordsmanship is impressive in its own right, his greatest talent lay in the Arcane. He ranks among the most gifted mages in history, having ascended to the rank of Archmage in his early twenties. As an Adept, he sought the secrets of Druidism from the mysterious glades and battled evil magi and countless minions of Aeternia. His masterpiece allowed him to assume the form of a mighty Treant and earned him a place among the masters and mistresses of his sphere. But it was his time in Kel'rondar that earned him the highest rank of Archmage -- for a great price. Since fleeing Xenarius' domain, he has been cursed by the touch of Anti-Nature. It was not until the summer of Era XXI that he dared confront the corruption in his soul.
Straylor's mastery over Druidism draw a great amount of suspicion and criticism from Druids and non-druids alike. As a merchant and agricultural mogul, his business endeavors expanded and prospered due to his access to Arcana. This inevitably caused great conflict among the wild things and the denizens of the forests and oceans. So while gold flowed freely into the coffers of House Leonardes, many Mer folk, fish, and beasts starved and died by his hand. This terrible deed is something Straylor still regrets to this day and it is the reason he vowed to protect what remained of the realm.

Grandmaster Spellbreaker

(
Level 5 Probably close to 300 exp since his Druidism exp was rolled into his Spellbreaking in 2015.
, HDT-approved) ' "

"As the ritual began, there was a feeling that struck Straylor Leonard that he was standing on a precipice and that it was a very, very long way down. Not that it was the fall that would kill him, but rather the inevitable, eventual landing. The Heart of the World was far, far greater than the expanse of the Medonian Continent – tethered throughout continents all throughout Telath and linked to both the Astral and a number of Demi-Planes such as that of Fae’rel and Kel’rondar ...And Straylor was infusing it with Anti-Magical properties ...Leaves and bark, vines and brambles, flora that altered before Straylor’s eyes (and those far and wide) as the greenery, as the gold and silver of the Enchanted Glades of Enamoria and the District of Maeve. Of the entirety of the Dolwoods itself didn’t so much wither and die as it crystalized. White as snow and bearing all the consistency of glass, the latent magics of the Dolwoods remained, even as it died ...The Heart of the World, wounded. The death of the Enchanted Glade of the Dolwoods and the Dolwoods itself altered irrevocably ...The beacon of Anti-Magic was lit, and Straylor was the knife at Carmelya’s throat.
-- Maddyn, Cleansing Medonia'

By connecting the contaminated Midlands with the Glade, Straylor inevitably tethered himself to the Heart of the World as well, permanently sealing the Glades in Medonia and turning the Dollwoods to glass.
While he was marooned on Melora for a few eras, Straylor used his mastery over the Material Plane to weave rope, parchment, and a variety of other primitive tools and equipment using what he could forage from the alien moonscape. After encountering a stranded Ancient Aelyrian, he was able to disenchant and enchant his amulets anew with Marcelias' help. Together, Medonian and Lunarian were able to jumpstart the Ancient Aelyrian's airship, rekindle its reactor and shields, and hurtle back to the Medonian continent'. During their escape, Straylor was able to supplement the airship's defenses and propulsion systems with his spellbreaking. And with his ability to Stabilize the surrounding Ara, the Grandmaster was able to bolster his Ancient Aelyrian companion's spells to withstand the Lunar Dragon's devastating attacks.
In the Summer of Era XXII, Straylor collaborated' with the Duchess of Middle Telath to create rings befitting the Sorcerer Supreme and Her Husband. The pair of enchantments were combined with cutting edge Spellbreaking techniques in order to allow the wearers to locate and teleport to each other over vast distances'. While working on a Perpetual Motion Engine for their portal / teleportation devices, Straylor spent some time on a side project with his lovely assistant Iliviana'. With the little princess' help, Straylor created a brand new reified item affectionately called 'Cloak'.
In the Summer of Era XXVI, Straylor found some unusual artifacts in Prosperity Square being sold by a mystery mage from the Exercitum Logistics Company (wiki). His work on these fragments of the Azure Sentinel led to his creation of prototype traps that were intended to be permanent fixtures (Stabilizers and Vertexes)'. The Grandmaster also learned how to repair the Azure Sentinel Cores, specifically the Sorcery Core which was revealed to have been constructed using the Scepter of Phedos.
The Spellbreaker was able to demolish a small forest by warping the foliage as he sprinted and swept alongside them in a dramatic fashion'. After defeating the outlaws, the Baron showed mercy by burying the ex-legionnaires who had resorted to crime after their military careers were cut short. He was able to warp the rocky soil and created tombs for the fallen bandits and took the survivors back to Trysvale.

Spellbreaker Techniques

:book1a: Warp - alter objects native to the Material Plane (e.g. turning something to become very soft or very strong)
:hat1d: Sense Magic - sense Arcane Contamination or extra-planar energies.
:staff2a: Spell Bounce - deflect or redirect spells from their intended target.
:hat1b: Unbind - unbind new spellbreakers using a special Ritual.
:staff2c: Destructive Reshaping - destructively deconstruct an existing spell. This gives them a measure of control over the resulting release of arcanic energy allowing them, for example, to turn a large fireball into a continuous stream of fire.
:hat1a: Consume - trigger a reaction between a portion of the target’s Vis and the arcane contamination infusing the target’s physical form.
:staff2b: Spell Hijack - takeover active spells (e.g. an elemental may suddenly pledge its allegiance to the Spellbreaker or a paladin wielding summoned swords may find their opponent in possession of their weapons).
:book1e: Purge Contamination - destabilize concentrations of arcane essence causing the remaining essence to manifest in an immediate, chaotic manner. This will effectively render low level sites of arcane contamination inert (though slightly singed) but will only temporarily lessen the effects of more contaminated areas.
:book1f: Stabilize/Destabilize - Mages assisted by Destabilization will be able to cast more powerful spells for the same amount of vis and will notice a general increase in the duration and efficacy of their weaves. Mages hindered by Destabilization will need to invest more vis to cast a spell and experience markedly increased rates of failures and miscasts.
:helmet1b: Soulbound - Even death cannot sever the link between a highly experienced Spellbreaker and the Material Plane. Many of the craft’s venerable practitioners found themselves unable to pass into the Ethereal Plane after their death, doomed to wander the earth as unquiet spirits.
:book1c: Specialty: Enchanter. Straylor does not use anti-magic abilities as a spellbreaker.
Unique Spellbreaking Techniques & Equipment
⚙️ Force Array Traps -- capable of harvesting contamination from master and archmage-level Sorcery spells. Combines Straylor's skill in gadgeteering and blacksmithing to create a series of pulleys, levers, and mechanical gears that whirr and react to force essence contamination. Principle design was tested and improved in Primus Gaudeo. Improvements were added in Straylor's workshop to design the Force Core, which is a permanent Trap and Altar that harvests force essence contamination from a talisman.
💎 Hall of Mirrors -- capable of harvesting contamination from master and archmage-level Mysticism spells. Mirrors are placed in elaborate, geometric patterns that resemble a maze, which takes up the space of a very large room or hall. Silver plates containing demon horse brain and ammonia are used to enhance the Altar in the center of the Trap, which can purify and concentrate thought essence contamination. Principle design was tested and improved in Primus Gaudeo.
🐎 Mobile Trap Arrays -- elaborate traps can be constructed atop heavy wagons. Combines Straylor's spellbreaking, blacksmithing, and access to wainwrights. Extremely powerful Altars can be built to harvest contamination on mobile platforms, which is useful on battlefields such as the cursed region surrounding Estelgorod. Principle designs were tested and improved during all three Estelgorod movies. Inventions include: Giant Pyres to collect entropy essence contamination, a series of traps that look like bound leather books that collect thought essence contamination throughout all the libraries in Primus Gaudeo, and a series of traps that look like miniature windmills and scarecrows that collect nature essence and anti-nature essence contamination throughout Medonia and Northumbria.

:hat1c: Professional Traditional Healing

Level 2 -- Experience Points: 15
During his time as an apprentice Druid, he learned traditional healing techniques with the Elves in Natura. He expanded those skills during his travels and career as a Druid, Knight, and later as a Master Druid and Archdruid. He has applied these skills in battlefields and during crises over many years. Straylor knows how to use basic and more advanced methods to treat wounds, stem bleeding, set bones, and sanitize tools to prevent infections. He also knows how to use basic herbs to create ointments and salves to create painkillers, treat minor infections or poisons.

:arrow1a: Veteran Hand Cannon

Level 2 -- Experience Points: 12 +1 +2 = 15

Note for Storytellers: as a reference, the "hand cannon" is more of a repeater crossbow that shoots metal slugs vs. a modern handgun. It was created by grandmaster gadgeteer PC, so it's an extremely rare weapon.

"Lastly, once the weapon was put together, an artful collection of steel, copper and bronze, Klue attached and ordinary sight, and put the weapon down before picking up a nearby leather case. ... There was a spot where the weapon would rest inside it, of course. But along with it was an additional sight, this one a magnifying scope unlike the simpler one. As for the weapon itself, Straylor would realize that the mark of his own house had been artfully worked into the polished walnut stock, while Klue's own trademark was more subtly stamped on the underside of the barrel."
-- Klue Malinconico'
During the Spring of Era XXII, the Count of House Malinconico gave Straylor a revolutionary weapon. The Grandmaster Gadgeteer designed the hybrid between a crossbow and a flintlock to be operated without the use of black powder, making it exceptionally rare and many times more useful. Straylor is familiar with its operating mechanisms, construction, and designs having put it together alongside the designer and creator more than once. He regularly cleans the mechanisms to ensure that it continues to be at optimal condition.
While riding out in the countryside, Straylor happened upon a group of deserters turned outlaws. He was able to engage multiple stealth archers, a feral shaman, and their captain using his hand cannon'. He employed a variety of hand cannon techniques and maneuvers to evade detection and increase his range and accuracy. During the expedition to the Solace Isle, Straylor used a combination of swordsmanship, spellbreaking, and using his hand cannon to fend against Xet and other monstrosities'. The heroes of the Empire attempted to retake Estelgorod a third time and Straylor used his hand cannon while flying on his Cloak of Levitation'.

Hand Cannon Maneuvers

🎯 Snipe (Veteran) "... breath and follow through."
This maneuver requires that the shooter remains as still as possible and account for wind and other movement. Straylor can Snipe from a crouched or prone position to enhance his accuracy. He can also employ this maneuver to disable foes (arms, legs, etc.) and strike targets at mid range with great accuracy.
🎯 Rapid Fire (Veteran) "Shoot first, sort them out later"
This maneuver takes advantage of the hand cannon's unique and revolutionary design. Straylor can fire all the slugs from his weapon in the general direction of his foes. The shots are not accurate but intended to startle or suppress enemies so that Straylor can reposition and find better vantage points or cover.

⚙️ Professional Gadgeteer

(Level 2 -- Experience Points: 11)
Since the rebuilding of Medonia', Straylor has been learning bits and pieces of gadgeteering alongside Klue Malinconico. His interests primarily lay in improving current design standards in weapons, armor, and transport systems. As such, he is constantly experimenting with blending engineering with spellbreaking.
During the construction of the Tower Trap', Straylor used clockwork machines to harvest the ambient contamination and the energy output of the 'Elemental Core' housed inside the great structure. The designs were used to develop two separate tower traps -- the Windmill Tower Trap and the Watermill Tower Trap, which were feats that combined Stryalor's expertise in gadgeteering and spellbreaking.
Straylor also expanded on Klue's designs using steam as a power source for engines. Instead of using flammable gasses and consumables like coal, he created a new Steamship Engine that uses reified obsidianite as a self-sustaining power source. The Steamship was very expensive to produce and would have required all the raw material and ship-building efforts of an entire region for an era to build.

⚒️ Professional Blacksmith

(Level 2 -- Experience Points: 8)
Straylor learned how to refine, shape, and build metal reinforcements and simple tools while working alongside Klue. He also learned how to craft and repair weapons and shoe horses. Though he largely uses this skill to aid in the creation and construction of traps for his spellbreaking.
During his projects with the Duchess of Centripax', Straylor used his blacksmithing to create unique Traps to concentrate low levels of Mysticism into high-level seeds (Mirror Maze) and harvest high-level Force essence into multiple traps using a room-sized Trap Array (clockwork, gears, etc.)
He has since developed new materials by blending spellbreaking with his metalworking. Magesteel is sorcery-infused iron that is reified to deflect and repel metals away from the body. Armor made using magesteel appear to be chainmail or scalemail in design. Glass and iron wrought with sorcery and earth essence also become very durable and heavier with increased tensile strength.

👁️‍🗨️ Dreamwalking

(Level 1 -- Experience Points: 2')

Other Abilities:

👑 Glory of the Conqueror

The Aspect of Constantine infuses your words and actions; when you are engaged in armed or magical combat, commanding armies on the tactical battlefield, or planning a military stratagem for warfare, you will have a decisive advantage against a character of the same relative skill, all other influences being equal, and will be able to out-maneuver them.

Arms and Armor.png

Weaponry

:sword1b: Leviathan
The legendary short sword was magically forged and tempered in Primus Gaudeo. It is highly durable and is perfectly-fitted for Straylor's style and fighting form. The black sapphire embedded in its hilt was enchanted with a Druidism spell that Banishes summoned creatures. After Straylor's transformation, he has turned the sword into a creature in its own right using reified Druidism. It now devours and consumes anything, which makes it stronger. As it continues to slay its foes, so it will grow more deadly and cunning still. So far, it has consumed demons, extra-planar fiends, and lunar monsters.
Modifications: Leviathan was given the fangs of the Wallbreaker Wyrm before Straylor's escape from the Moon, giving one edge of the demon blade a serrated bite. Bloodbound - this weapon may not be drawn from its scabbard by anyone except Straylor Leonard.
  • Creatures devoured by Leviathan (and absorbed abilities)
    • Demon Treants from the Direwood Forest (gigantic demonic trees who could spew emerald fire)
    • Dread Knight Demon and Captain of Direwood Castle (heavily armored demon who could shoot beams of energy from its eyes)
    • Jackal Demon and Steward of Direwood Castle (flying demon)
    • Master of Direwood Castle (four-winged, six-limbed demon)
    • Twin-tailed beasts from Melora (capable of teleportation and hunts in packs)
    • Thralls of the Lunar Dragon (four-armed, dracon-like creatures on Melora)
:sword1a: Vampyre
Straylor's first Damascus steel short sword was transformed into a demon blade that emitted corrosive black flames using reified Entropy. It easily melts through leather, flesh, and softer metals. Though steel might take several strong blows to compromise. Foes afflicted by the demon fire are stunned -- more than enough time to be dealt a killing blow. Its metal sheath is specially designed to contain the weapon's sinister secret. The blade and scabbard are still emblazoned with the colors and sigils of the Medonian Guard. Modification: Bloodbound - this weapon cannot be drawn from its scabbard by anyone except Straylor Leonard.

🛡️ Secyclion Shield
This unusual piece armor piece appears to be two crescent moons fused together. It provides excellent protection and is made from the highest quality materials available to Eunesian armor-smiths. The design is intended to hide the wielder's movements while specific maneuvers can 'catch' the weapon of unwary foes while giving the user unusual openings to counterattack. It was been strengthened and remade into an impregnable shield and deadly weapon in its own right using reified Sorcery. The material is far stronger, lighter, and more capable of deflecting direct blows.
  • Upgraded on Melora using the following:
    • Plates of Xetan Carapace - very heavy, magic-deflecting quality.
    • Fangs of a Xetan Wallbreaker Wyrm - very sharp and used to drill into the earth.
    • "Ricochet" bracer that returns Straylor's shield back to him when thrown or dropped. Range: Medium - Far

🔫 The Count's Cannon
A masterfully designed firearm by the famous gadgeteer Klue Malinconico. It is custom-fitted to be fired one-handed and comes with a detachable scope sight. It can fire several different types of slugs, each meant for different types of targets ranging from normal steel slugs to artichoke-shaped bullets with razor tips to pierce tough hide and armor. Its firing mechanism is quiet, emitting just a hiss of air instead of the standard boom of lesser designs that employed blackpowder and other volatile substances. Modification: Bloodbound - this weapon cannot be drawn from its holster by anyone except Straylor Leonard.

🗡️ Dread (Hidden)
This first knight's dagger uses reified Necromancy to emit fright and fear. When free of its sheath, it emits an entropic aura that will affect those around the wielder. When touching a person, those entropic energies will focus in on that one person and breathe unfathomable fear into them that can weaken or even cause them to flee in terror. Modification: Bloodbound - this weapon cannot be drawn from its sheath by anyone except Straylor Leonard.

🗡️ Leech (Hidden)
This second knight dagger's dagger was twisted with reified Necromancy to embody gluttony. It appears like a normal blade with dark, barely visible patterns that look like teeth and an unnaturally dark sheen. If it draws blood, it will begin to sap the strength and life force of its prey, transferring those energies to its master. These effects increase in duration and strength based on how much blood it drinks. Modification: Bloodbound - this weapon cannot be drawn from its sheath by anyone except Straylor Leonard.

Armor

:armor1b: Mosaic
This full suit of exotic spider-silk is derived from the extremely deadly and notorious Giant Demiosian Spiders of the Fire Isles. This set was crafted specifically for Straylor's physique and is considered highly flexible but also a durable material similar to hard leather. It is often worn under everyday garb for added protection. After the rebuilding of Medonia, the spider silk armor was transformed with reified Druidism. Like living things, Mosaic has its own wild instincts that allows the full set of armor to react and adapt to its surroundings. By forming a symbiotic relationship with the wearer, though, the armor can also respond to its master's reactions in exchange for a small amount of energy drawn from the user.

🧥 Traveling Cloak of Levitation - finely crafted reified traveling cloak using massive amounts of Mysticism and Sorcery harvested from the remnants of an Arch Mystic and an Arch Sorcerer's spells. Utilitarian in design, but large enough to ward against the rain with a large hood. It is fitted to accommodate the Baron's armor and equipment underneath. The best leather workers in Primus Gaudeo designed a series of harnesses and straps that would properly distribute the wearer's weight when the fashionable cloak is used as intended. The soft leather fabric is also reinforced with force essence, making it incredibly durable but lightweight. "Cloak" has a limited ability of levitation and is able to carry one human adult through the air at an average speed for a few hours before needing to recharge. Cloak has a mind of its own. It can however be bribed by turning situations and events into a game. It knows how to 'fetch', 'chase', 'tag', and 'catch'. Since the reified traveling cloak is sapient, it tends to prioritize its own safety and that of its wearer.

Accessories

:coin3a:Lunarian Amulet - this platinum band was originally created by the famous Viskyria Crow. It contains six perfectly cut gemstones that were enchanted by Marcelias, an Ancient Aelyrian Lunarian, who was stranded on the moon Melora for centuries.
  • Ruby I: Elemental Flames (Enchanted) - conjures destructive elemental flames in an area of effect. Master-level.
  • Ruby II: Control Earth (Enchanted) - allows the user to manipulate the surrounding earth and rock. Master-level.
  • Emerald I: Invisibility (Enchanted) - renders the user completely invisible. Master-level.
  • Emerald II: Shielding (Enchanted) - protects the user from physical and magical damage. Master-level.
  • Sapphire I: Rebound (Enchanted) - conjures a field of repulsive energy, reflecting physical and magical attacks. Master-level.
  • Sapphire II: Healing (Enchanted) - the user is infused with a powerful healing spell. Master-level.
  • Ruby I:Petrify (Enchanted) - Level 4 Druidism spell. Large area of effect. Offensive use of Bark Skin turns targets into wooden statues (non-lethal).
  • Ruby II:Heartless (Enchanted) - Level 4 Druidism spell. Large area of effect. Offensive use of Bark Skin that turns targets' internal organs into wood (lethal).
  • Emerald I:Greater Tree Form (Enchanted) - Level 4 Druidism spell. Greater Tree Form turns Straylor into an immense tree.
  • Emerald II: Add-On (Enchanted) - Master Druidism spell. When combined with Greater Tree Form, this modification or "Add On" allows Straylor to move and control his roots and branches as if he was a treant. This combination of spells make-up Treant Form, Straylor's Masterpiece.
  • Sapphire I:Nature's Cure (Enchanted) - Master Druidism spell. Enhances the target's immune system and purge the body of poisons or disease.
  • Sapphire II:Chloroplast (Enchanted) - Master Druidism spell. Creates healing fungus to cover the entire body and assist in regeneration. The spell can heal serious wounds and weaker poisons over a medium amount of time.
Emerald I:Invisibility (Enchanted) - renders the user completely invisible.
  • Emerald II: Shielding (Enchanted) - protects the user from physical and magical damage.
Former enchantments:
  • Enchanted with Shiftwood - Level 4 Druidism spell. Allows the user to shape and warp wooden objects around them.
  • Enchanted with Animation - Level 4 Druidism spell. Allows the user to 'animate' wooden objects around them.

📿 Black Sapphire Necklace This amulet is enchanted with Druidism, which summons a griffin to the user. [Borrowed by Glindorf]

:backpack1a: Gunther's Gadgets (purchased)
  • Stink Bombs (A small clay marble filled with a foul-smelling chemical. When flung on the ground, the marble shatters, releasing the chemical and creating a foul odor. *Note: Odor may cause nausea) – x10
  • “Tool Box” (This leather armor is reinforced with Elvish Steel bands and contains various pockets, loops, catches and snaps, allowing the wearer to have small tools and items ready at hand.)
  • Waterproof Torches (Torches that are treated with a special chemical, these torches will not go out when dampened. Dipping them in water will, however, put the flames out.)
  • Hand Sparker (A device made of steel wire. Squeezing the wire handle rubs the steel wire tip against the flint base, creating sparks much quicker than regular flint and steel.)
  • Telescope (Using mirrors and lenses, this device allows the user to see objects at a distance with clarity as though they were much closer.)
  • Night Goggles (A chemical spread on the lenses magnifies minute amounts of light, permitting the wearer to see in almost total darkness.)
  • Snap Web (Made of very fine wire woven into a small ball about the size of an adult fist, a snap web quickly expands when thrown, forming into a wall of fine mesh wire about twenty feet by twenty feet or smaller, depending on the size of the area.)

Mounts

🐎 Sabre
Born and raised on the Carmelyn Hinterlands, this steed was bred for one purpose: war. Arrogant but noble, Sabre prefers a certain excitement when galloping and abhors anything more than a single rider. He will refuse to pull carts or perform tasks considered beneath his bloodline. Straylor has ridden him in countless battles and campaigns. Sabre retired after the Xetan Wars and his progeny continue to serve House Leonardes and the Knights of Libertas.

🐉 Night Drake
The enormous horned male is large enough to subdue lesser males and hunt anything else. They were bonded during a rescue mission with the Fire Keepers. Named Behemoth, the alpha had massive spikes and bony ridges along its limbs, neck and back. Crimson streaks marked its wings to contrast its obsidian scales and bright amber eyes. Behemoth lives on Demios in the Fire Keepers compound.

Vault h1.png

Vault

List of treasure, loot, and other rare items collected through adventures and quests.

🥀Hepburn the Second - A tiny little pot plant in a vibrantly painted little tin. And within, a much, much smaller little plant than the creature that had grown in the aftermath of his own spell within Medonia’s sewers and within the crater itself. Green of leaf and opening and closing its mouth in a silent yearning -- @Maddyn
Hepburn II is now your responsibility. Childcare subsidies and responsibilities are henceforth forfeit for our child. Feed one drop of Human blood daily for best results.

💽 The Troubadour - music box created by the Count Klue Malinconico and Countess Hay'aan Malinconico. By combining their mastery over technology, art, and magic, they were able to create one of the few carillons à musique in the Empire.

🧪 Workshop & Laboratory - the grandmaster spellbreaker has an extensive workshop and laboratory containing specialized equipment and supplies for his ongoing experiments and projects. His base of operations also contains sealed seeds he has collected throughout his travels to harvest contamination from known high-level sites in the eras after the Xetan Wars.
  • Vast amounts of nature and anti-nature contamination in Druidism seeds (Medonia, Enamorian Midlands, Solace Isle, Trysvale)

    • Unstable and requires more extensive repairs. Generates a random number of Force seed.
  • Fragment of Vae Victus - generates L2 Chaos seed once per month (kind of an asshole about it)
    • Twelve (12) seeds per year starting Era 26
    • Current number of L2 Chaos seeds: approx 36
  • Elemental Core -- contained separately in stabilizers and vertexes
    • Air Core & Fire Core stored in Windmill Tower Trap (generates more Air seeds than Fire seeds)
    • Water Core & Earth Core stored in Watermill Tower Trap (generates more Water seeds than Earth seeds)
  • Hearthstone (Heart Stone) - Level 5 focus created using Ardentium seeds and the Thaumaturgy Core. The reified amethyst was cut by the legendary Vikyria Crow of Zinn'Sunn prior to the Xetan Wars. The focus will easily last over a century of regular use so long as it is well-maintained.
🛩️ Prototype Airship - Cold Core, Reactor (Engine), Capacitors (batteries), Stabilizers and Electromagnet field generators built using reified Elementalism and a grandmaster gadgeteer. Capable of low-altitude flight for several hours at a time before needing to be recharged (Klue)

Personal Wealth & Business Tier

Straylor Leonard, and by extension members of House Leonardes, are in the Fifth Tier per HDT.
Adamantite Player (Tier 5): These top tier characters are big earners that can afford almost anything they put their minds to buying. Whole herds of horses? Large manor houses with wide tracks of land? Both are no trouble for adamantite players! These characters tend to be the heavy-weight politicians and empire-renowned business gurus or even adventurers who have mastered the trick of finding the greatest, largest treasures on a near regular basis. Finances are not an issue for these players, who can spend frivolously without a care in the world.

Overview

East Libertas Trading Company

Note to Storytellers: businesses in Northumbria are being reorganized under the "East Libertas Trading Company" as of Era 29.
Platinum Business (Tier 5): The businesses termed platinum are known throughout the province in which they are located, although some may be known just over the borders of neighboring Provinces. They attract wealthy customers that are looking for the next up and comer or the best local to their area. The business owner can start to afford a somewhat larger staff with a decent set of Skills to tap into. These businesses generate a comfortable money cushion without the owner having to worry about financial matters. However, a failure to step out of the box with their wares or getting their name out there may end in clients losing interest…and the business losing steam.
  • Status of the company at the beginning of Era XXIII:
  • Platinum Business (Tier 5) :coin4c:
  • Overview:
  • Sixteen (16) merchant ships in total, divided between two trade routes:
  • The Libertas Route - six ships are rented to the Trysvale Trading Company;
    • The Ianollia Route - goods are shipped between Fersoun and Abestat.
    • House Leonardes funded the construction of the ports at Fersoun
    • TTC's vessels have preferred status at Fersoun.
  • The Carmelyn Cross, consisting of 10 vessels, has been assigned to this route.

Trysvale Loom Company

  • Status of the company at the beginning of Era XXIII:
  • Gold Business (Tier 4)
    :coin4c:
  • Overview:
  • 10 farms, 100 acres each, 200 ewes each;
  • total of 2000 ewes, which may eventually be increased to 3000 for the current acreage when the farms become more efficient;
  • the farms produce wool, meat, sheepskin, and cheese.

Prosperity & Co.

The Rage Forge (partnership, Silver Business) :coin3c:
The Wainwright & Stables (purchased, Silver Business) :coin3c:
Forte et Honneur (Jaedaxia, Tin Business) :coin1a:
Leonardes Properties, Jaedaxia (purchased, Copper Business) :coin1a:

Innovation to maintain competitive advantage in the province:
  • Enchantments to shield ships against storms and 'automatic' rigging systems (threads from the old site)
  • Reified water purification, fire suppressant systems, and food storage in ships and wagons (Maddyn)
  • Reified materials to make super light components that are still highly durable for airships and steamships (Maddyn)
  • Reified stones and glass to create illumination and heat-emitting devices for ships and wagons (Maddyn)
  • Steamships completion by end of Era 28 by combining spellbreaking and gadgeteering (Maddyn)

Candaceburg Corn & Wheat (CCW)

  • Likely destroyed during Nightlands siege (status unknown).

Properties h1.png
Not one to openly flaunt their wealth like the nouveau-riche, the Baron prefers his modest brick manor in Trysvale. But when duty and obligation from the Trade Republic's capital calls for it, the Baron and Baroness resides at their castle-seat in Château de Lumière in Jaedaxia's Southern Quarter. They also own a kástro on the Little Red Island called the Crimson Citadel, which is a fortified dwelling of ancient Secyclid design.

Locally known as the "Baron's Manor".

Trysvale Corn & Wheat

Established in Ponutis of Spring Era XIV, the Leonardes Corn & Wheat Farms has had a handful of golden harvests under its trademark. The hefty 100 acre plot was a common sight among the lengthy patches of farmlands in Northern Trysvale. Found west of the dirt path, the farmlands was visible thanks to its trio of barns, two which were erected sometime before Summer's end. South of its lines were Grey's Homestead and MoonShadow Farms. But on Cryxatum of Spring Era XV, the farmlands grew six times larger and was thus renamed: Trysvale Corn & Wheat I. The Leonardes name was kept, of course, but only in official form: on documents and trademarks, etc.

A decent sized manor greeted most visitors, its brick, stone, and wooden architecture truly a sight to ignore. It was painted several generations ago, it seemed, but looked sturdy enough to keep its occupants from wind, rain, or shine. There was a lot of those here among the farms. Standing two stories high, the manor had a large living area, kitchen, three baths, some eight bedrooms including a master bedroom. It was spacious, but simply furnished. There was little decorating needed for the men that lived inside.

As for the farmland itself, five outhouses littered the area. Used primary for storage space, it had room enough for two men at most to stand shoulder to shoulder inside before becoming too crowded. But the tools hardly mind. A stream flowed off to the north, the farm's primary source of water. It was the life stream of Northern Trysvale. Wells were also a common sight, since underground sources were shallow on better spots.

For the most part, the 600 acre farmlands worked happily and diligently with its neighbors. No complaints were made against it, and its workers were hardly the type that bothered others. In truth, its Master was the type that made friends with others -- especially since he was also former Chief Constable and current Lord Thane. At times he could be seen, arriving on the luxurious Thanal carriage to visit his old friends and to see to his business. Other times, neighbors would be intrigued by the magical things performed on the farmlands. It was, by far, the largest tract of land owned by a single individual.

Whenever anyone arrived, whether it be on foot or carriage, an enormous black and tan Riparian Warhound would dash over to greet them, ears and tail erect, barking and howling at the intruders. It would take several moments for the closest farmhand to run over, tell the war hound to stop its yapping, and finally greet the guest in kind. For this particular meeting, it was a red-haired man with a kind smile. "Sorry 'bout that", he said with a idle shrug, "you should have seen them wryverns, heh. They're kind of a feisty when ye get in their territory too. Can I help ya?"

South of the main 600 acre plot, another expanse was added to the company's total acreage just some miles along the northern road. This one was named Leonardes Trysvale Corn and Wheat II and it boasted four hundred acres of farmland. And several miles north of the thousand-acre shares belonging to House Leonardes was a fifty thousand acre addition approved during Winter Era XVI-XVII. Unlike the expanded plot, this land had been left dormant for several seasons already and was indeed a boon to have. Immediately following its purchase, teams of farmhands descended upon the expanse and began to work the earth. It would only be time, perhaps a season longer, before the fallow fields would once against bear fruit -- and like a phoenix from its ashes, Trysvale would rise again to become one of the greater trading cities of the Carmelyn.

And with her, the Trysvale Corn & Wheat Company.
