Self-Moderation Abolished

Serale there, Aelyrians!

What was snuck into the last release regarding moderation was meant to be incorporated into the announcement but forgotten! While most people already know that we've been "discouraging" self-moderation and instead encouraging people to find peer-moderators to tell their stories, it was never really made an official rule.

Well, that time has come for the official ruling: self-moderation is no longer allowed in the world of Aelyria.

Instead, we allow what are called Expositions, described in our [wiki]A Players' Guide to Moderation[/wiki]
in the following manner: "This involves the player writing both their character’s actions as well as the environment’s in a single-author narrative. These are the least common threads and can only be used for scenes which are meant to deepen and explain the character but in which no advantages, experience, material, relational, or otherwise, can be gained."

Essentially, you may not gain experience from any threads that involve you and only you. Instead, an exposition explores your character's emotional state or present situation, sort of a brief window into what is going on with your character. These do not need to be signed off by a moderator or approved of posting as your character does not reap any benefits from them.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,
Nimh

An additional note, because it's worth mentioning: if you are threading in any situation (alone or with another person), as long as there is no gain from the thread you are welcome to post it without prior approval or moderation. Have at it, no problem...!

Q: If you have two PC's involved and you're moderating eachother's actions, is this considered a self mod or peer mod? Example: Lia and Rosie get involved in a bar fight and are writing NPC's/moderating eachother's actions. There's not third party moderator involved.

nope, that’s collaborative, not self modding. As long as someone else is doing the awarding for your individual character, you’re good.
