Rhyton Un'daaro

Rhyton the Younger

Young Bull Rhyton 2.png

The Young Bull
For a minotaur, Rhyton was considered too timid and small to be worth a damn. Since he was brought up as a slave, he was regularly starved and his horns shaved so that they never gained the spectacular size prized among the nobles. Standing just under eight feet tall, he was often overlooked by the larger bulls of his caste. A shaggy coat of dark gray hair usually grew during the colder seasons. This normally shed at the end of springtime, revealing a stocky but athletic frame. Like his ancestors, Rhyton is monstrously strong though he prefers to read, write, and paint. He gained these skills and habits after being a longtime cup bearer for a collector named Pompeii. When his master's household was asleep, Rhyton would steal away to his library and read as many scrolls and manuscripts as he could before falling asleep. He did this until his exile with his brother from Minatos on Era XXI.

Born and raised on the island of Minatos, Rhyton is a devout adherent of the teachings from Jalat's High Priests. But since arriving on the mainland, he is learning about the other religions and cults. Since his voyage, the young bull has also sought out the magic of Runes and symbols, a practice formerly called Ikos. But first and foremost, Rhyton seeks knowledge and wisdom. His appetite for tomes and stories has not changed. Though he is now older and freer to pursue those passions.

:book1a: Skills and Exp:

  • War Hammer (+1, +1, +1, +1, +1, +1) = 6 total (Veteran Mercenary)
  • Pit Fighting (+1 +1 +1 +1) = 5 total (Former Gladiator)
  • Ikos (+2, +2, +1, +1, +1, +1, +1, +1, +1) = 11 total (Journeyman Ikonomancer)
  • Painting (starting package) = 2 total (Amateur Artist)

:book1b: Material Points

  • +1 ("The Gift")
  • +1 (used for Glyphs on armaments)
  • +1 (Boss Shade)
  • +1 (Primeheims II)
  • 3 Unused MP

:book1d: Ikos Techniques:

  • Inscription - a lengthy process which involves drawing or recreating runes on a specific surface.
  • Casting - an abrupt process that involves the ripping of an inscription from its surface and placing it onto another object.
  • Glyphs - A glyph is a rune inscribed into something, such as a wall or a sword, to facilitate a reaction appropriate to the rune used.
Note: Journeymen can cast onto objects they are not in direct contact with but they must still be in close proximity to use their abilities. They are also capable of using their abilities upon a target that is approximately human-sized.

:book1c: Runes (7):

  1. "Bright" (True Name: Light) Current application(s): objects glow very brightly, warm but not hot. Dizzying to look at directly.
  2. "Slip" (True Name: Line) Current application(s): reduced friction between objects or persons.
  3. "Fiery" (True Name: Burn) Current application(s): heat, hot, boiling.
  4. "LOUD" (True Name: Sound) Current application(s): any sound made by that object would likewise be vastly amplified.
  5. "Lightweight" (True Name: Weightless) Current application(s): items can be made much lighter than they weigh.
  6. HARD” (True Name: Strong) Current application(s): items can be made harder or more durable.
  7. "Dark" (True Name: Dim) Current application(s): objects become dark and become obscured and difficult to see.

:book1f: C-C-C-Combos:

In brightenings to come, Rhyton's Fiery + Bright + LOUD combo would no doubt be the stuff of legends, turning each blow of his hammer into a shrieking, incandescent meteor descending from the heavens. But as he was now, that combo... well, actually it was still pretty good. Definitely the greatest rune effect he had managed in his career thus far. Of course as a Journeyman Ikonomancer, just combining runes was about Rhyton's limit. He couldn't actually chain their effects together, yet. What happened instead was that the power of Bright and LOUD were slurped up by Fiery, upgrading it to VERY Fiery ... And that was plenty good enough under the circumstances. While no howling death meteor, the Journeyman-level VERY Fiery hammer still blazed so fiercely that the smaller shades all fled in an instant. One quite possibly even soiled itself, insofar as it was possible for a Shade to do, leaving an oily black smear on the ground as it fled. -- @Barthelme
