Arcane Ashes Warehouse (Vers 2008)

Scattered Ashes Arcane Warehouse (Vers)

After the closing down of the Width of a Circle Arcane Shoppe, with its Fae owner's ostracism, the Aedile was forced to let go on something they had been reluctant to in the past. The building was bought at a high price by a dark figure, mysterious in his intentions and untrustworthy on his looks. The shop wasn't changed at all; the same large two story building, of greyish stones, and on the form of an eight, with few dirty windows. The sign on the other was new, showing huge capital letters contrasting with the Scattered Ashes Arcane Warehouse blunt print, that from afar would merely read SAAW.

Upon entering, one would come in touch with the cold bare floor and the still air that lied within. Shelves at both sides held creepy looking ingredients and tools, mostly for show, as the real stuff was stored cautiously in the back, and some even secretively below, on the basement. The naked walls and the thin beams of sunlight struggling to get past the windows gave the place an eerie feeling, and the dark cloaked figure sitting atop white dusty cushions even more. The figure sat, one leg crossed in front of him, and the other bent over the first, while his hands met beneath floppy sleeves. His hooded face looked almost hollow, the shallow light only meeting it partially, shade and shape undistinguishable, though human, or elf, for the looks of it.

Without a move from his place of rest, the new shopkeep received his visitors, his timber cold and icy, like the frightening sound that came within places where sound hadn't been present for ages.

"I am Aeron Morthen. Name your request and it will be granted... for a price..."

OOC: This shop cannot be self-moderated.

Nervous. That was how the elf felt when he approached the building. It stood out like a sore thumb, a sense of "wrongness" that surrounded it and made it stand apart from the rest of Vers. It seemed like just the place for seedy deals were wrought, and shady items exchanging hands.

Just the place he was looking for.

It all started this morning, at Rosyun, over a bowl of porridge - during an epiphany. Wouldn't it be so cool to speak with animals? The very idea of communicating with animals appealed to him, if only so he could speak to horses to urge them to ride faster, or to shoo away annoying dogs and such.

Of course, he wasn't quite sure if such an item existed; however he had heard of druids being in communication with animals. It seemed quite feasible that amulets or such items exist that would be enchanted with their magicks.

He entered the building, and noticed the proprietor. Too nervous to glance around at his surroundings, he speedily made way to the counter.

"Serale, Aeron. I.. I, I mean, that is... Do you have any items of enchantment that allows the wearer to communicate with animals?"

The words gushed out all at once, and he awaited with bated breath for the reply.

Aeron stood there for a moment, a smile crossing his face as he knew exactly what Xyltha needed, and was prepared to give it to him, for a certain price. "Well, I do have an enchanted ring that has five charges on it, each charge will last for three brightenings, and it will allow you to speak with animals, and to understand them.. But, the price is steep, 50,000 crowns... Although, if you can't afford that, then you could always go on a quest to gather certain materials for me that i can use to continue my business..." he proposed, and then awaited a response from Xyltha to see what the elf said about his proposal...

Xyltha's jaw dropped in sudden shock! He had an inkling that enchanted items were expensive, but he didn't expect them to cost around the region of 50,000

! Especially one that lasted only for 5 charges. A sharp intake of breath broke his temporary paralysis.

"50,000 crowns?! Ahem..ahem... Well, that certainly is quite steep. Certainly a valuable piece of enchanted ring, I'm sure. But I was wondering if you had any other enchanted items has unlimited charges? While even having 5 charges if already outside my price range, I'm willing to undertake your quests for an item that has limitless charges..."

He shuffled his feet, suddenly feeling somewhat uncomfortable pressing Aeron for more. But the bargaining had just started; Xyltha strengthened his resolve to prepare for a battle of wits and words. Perhaps there was a bargain yet to be wrung out of this encounter.

"Well, we do have one that is permanently enchanted, but you'd have to go on a very long quest to find three items for me that will help me make the ring to be strong enough to be enchanted. The first item is Ardentium, the second is Obsidianite which is found by Aslan's Forge, and the third is a peridot... Find me these three items, and you shall have your ring created and enchanted..." he said, giving the quest to Xyltha if he'd take it...

Ardentium, Obsidianite, peridot. Three strange-sounding names which Xyltha had never heard of. The elfling wasn't exactly sure where they could be found. Did one find them growing on trees? Or swimming underwater? Regardless, the items seemed rather difficult to acquire, if the value of the ring was anything to go by. However, with the reward in mind, he resolved to obtain them for the enigmatic shopkeeper. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

"I'll do it! Where can I find them? Point me in the right direction, and I'll go fetch them for you."

He smiled. Finally, what seemed like the perfect opportunity was presenting itself.

"There are several possible ways that you can obtain these materials. The Ardentium can be obtained under the ruins of zerdergia, where the Ardentium golems resided... The Obsidianite can be found within Aslan's Forge, a volcano in the Aruim Mountains. The Peridot you can find in the mines in the Sherian wilderness... Each of these items are difficult, and fairly hard to obtain, it will take alot of traveling, and work on your part, as i'm not sure many are searching for them. But if you can manage to find these three items, i can forge the ring for you, and it will be near indestructable as well as beautiful and elegant. It will also allow you communication with any animal that you desire..." he said...

OOC Well, this sure is a tantalising quest. Are you free to moderate it?

Xyltha's mind was still reeling back from the thought of having to traverse so far and wide, and the possibility of having to do battle with foes that seemed quite outside his league. But then the prospect of having his own enchanted ring, one that enabled him to communicate with animals and open a whole new world of excitement and adventure - it seemed well worth the risks.

"Very well then. I think I will take up your challenge. I will gather these items and return, thought it may take a while, as I'm sure you know."

He had accepted the challenge. Now, there was just the matter of collecting the ingredients for that ring. If the crafty Enchanter had nothing to add to the exchange, Xyltha would take his leave, and start plotting his way to get those gems.

Alice was curious by nature and one who love to seek news, occasionally reporting them. That, though, did not mean Alice was a gossiper or a rumour monger. She seeked news, researched the news to find actual facts and as much prove as possible before confirming it in her own mind. This brightening, she was journeying through Vers, exploring the town and saw, from afar, a building with the words SAAW. She wondered who in the right mind sold only saws in a building that big. As she approached, she noticed the proper name of the shop; Scattered Ashes Arcane Warehouse. Amused, she entered the shop.

Inside, Alice noticed the things within were very much like those of her own work place. Tools and ingrendients. She heard the owner's voice, before she saw him. Alice's mind jumped started on basic area diagnosis, a process which she gathered information from what she saw, what she smelled, what she felt, what she tasted and what she heard to form a basic answer to what the area was meant for. There were many odd tools and ingredients, otherwise there was nothing much else. The place was dusty and was not well-lited, and the shopkeeper did not sound particularly friendly. Alice guessed this was no ordinary shoppe or any alchemy shops. It was a speciality store where you don't window-shop or just buy things off the shelf. The shopkeeper had also said any request was possible for a price. Alice guessed this was a place where someone could sell really rare things.

"Oh, Serale." Alice couldn't help, but feel a little nervous about her request. "I was wondering if you have anything to allow me to control horses and sense their emotions properly." Alice looked at the hooded figure carefully, not wishing to miss anything that might be revealed.

Third of Optia

As the proprietor sat back in the darkened storeroom, a missive was slid under the door, a properly folded and mailed to a "Mister Aeron Morthen" for a summons to meet at the office of the Assistant Thane come sundown. Whether there was word or not regarding how many letters the new asst. would send until Aeron bid the summons, none could say. But given it had been marked properly and stamped with the seal of the Mage's council for use in immediate terms, it was safe to say that his presence would be desired sooner rather than later to avoid some rather dark ommission of visitors from his store.

Rioshi was a bastard like that, mayhaps. A merchant peddled his wares to the people. But if there were none to buy, then the merchant would find himself at a rather unfortunate situation.

There was a positive note to this missive though. Apparently if he accepted the offer given to him on behalf of the Versian government, the pay and rank grade would be especially lucrative in the form of his new role. This impudent katta had named what he wanted from the stocks, and it was sure that Aeron's services would most likely not come cheap.
